Match Thread Coventry City vs Yeovil Town Match Thread - Monday 2nd Apr

We've already established he weren't at fault for their 1st goal. As for the second goal? Both Grimmer and Haynes were high up field - so I don't really see how you can single out Haynes? In fact, go and watch the highlights over again, you'll see Grimmer trotting back despite the threat. You...

Why is anyone who hasn't gone to the game given air time? 6-2 is a pretty damning scoreline, but that's without context. The first 15m was the worst defensive display I think I have ever seen from any team. That said, I have seen far more sorry performances from Cov over the years. We created...

    Burge "injured"

Sports fans are the worst. As soon as you like someone, they can do no wrong, of you don’t like them, they can do no right. I absolutely dreaded Doyle and Platt in the Hoofroyd day’s. I couldn’t see any positives back then. Mind you, was about 15 back then — everything was black and white.

    Burge "injured"

Exactly, that’s precisely my point. The way some people on this forum hark on, he’s responsible for every ill in our team. Based on today, he was our least worse defender. The other 3 and Burge were that bad. I don’t perticularly rate Haynes, but I think he gets a lot of undue stick.

    Burge "injured"

    Ok, so the mistakes that have directly cost us points: Yeovil (A) - 2-0, 27m Newport (H) - 1-0, 53m FGR (H) - 1-0, 29m Exeter (A) - 1-0, 7m Luton (H) - 2-2, 57m (JCH lost his marker so it wasn’t just Burge’s mistake) Yeovil (H) - 6-2, 4m I think you’re misdiagnosing the problem. Over 46 games...

    Burge "injured"

I think Haynes gets a lot more stick than he deserves. Defensively, Grimmer can be unconvincing himself. You say Haynes goes missing, yet, a game like today, the only defender not to be badly exposed, was Haynes. He got skinned a few times, but he was nowhere near as calamitous as his teammates...

    Burge "injured"

Well, you can’t really count today because we lost by 4 goals and the defence were culperable in 5 of the 6 we conceded. Also, what about the finishing? If Vincenti buries a tap in at 1-0, it’s a totally different game. We’d have a grand total of 4, 6 if you count the Luton’s first (though JCH...

Match Thread Coventry City vs Yeovil Town Match Thread - Monday 2nd Apr

In that defensive display, you single out Haynes? - Not Hyam for the 2nd and 4th goals? (In fairness, the 4th he was left open because we were going all out) - Not Grimmer for a terrible, underpowered header that their striker got to for a tap in for their 3rd? - not McDonald for missing a...

    Burge "injured"

People are making a huge deal out Burge, but he does more class saves than mistakes. He’s made 3 mistakes that have ended in goals all season? He’s not as bad as people make out. He’s no Westwood, that’s for sure. I think a lot of people have it in for our younger players that struggled in L1...

    Just needs some perspective

I think synergy-wise Haynes and Shipley work well, but with Reid in the mix now, and after a terrible defensive display, Davies and Stokes should start the next match.

    Biamou

I think he’s really taking to the role of an impact sub. I think this is what he was signed for — come off the bench and make things happen. He seems to have the confidence to try more things when he comes off the bench. He probably deserves a start v Notts County.

I think it was Grimmer, but I’m not 100% certain. For a defence that is usually so sturdy, I’m in complete disbelief at the calamity that was the first 15m. Possibly the worse 15m I’ve ever witnessed from a defensive point of view.

I’ve been thinking for a while we’d suit a 4-3-3 with a lack of an obvious RM. Bayliss, Doyle and Shipley in the middle like against Mansfield. With a combination of the following; McNulty, JCH, Biamou and Reid. Reid displayed a few attributes I think we’ve been missing for a while. He wanted...

The clock is ticking again Robins...

What would Shipley bring to a game we’re trailing by 2-3 goals? Barrett had a really good chance to score off a brilliant first touch, followed by a disappointing finish. He’s also left footed meaning the only player he could really replace was Reid. Who frankly, was probably our ‘best’ player...

I don’t think any goals came from Haynes side, he got skinned a few times and recovered well to concede the corner that led to the first goal. Whereas, at least 2 came from Grimmer’s — he was v lackadaisical tracking back for goals 2 and 4. He was also directly at fault for their 3rd! That...

I’m unsure where I stand on that. McNulty, somehow, since scoring his hat trick has missed about 3 clear cut chances over the last 2 games! I think Biamou is benefitting from having a newly defined role within in the team. He’s an impact player. That said, he’ll be just about the only confident...

    Just needs some perspective

The difference between losing 6-2 or 4-2 was immaterial. Both Barrett and McNulty missed clear cut chances at 4-2. At least we ‘went for it’ — we could’ve easily ambled into the 4-2 loss. I’m sure if anyone has played football manager, we’ve all been there losing 3 or 4-0 and went ‘fuck it’ and...

Why does Haynes get a 1 and Grimmer gets a 4?! Haynes played bad, yes. But Grimmer trotted back for their second and 4th goals. In fact, I think he may have been able to prevent their 2nd. I think he’s a better player than Haynes, but he looked utterly shattered today. His tracking back was v poor.

With the mistakes we made, this is clearly isn’t the managers fault. We had chances to get back in the game. For starts, Vincenti had a simple tap in at 1-0 to equalise it on about 6m in. I think we should’ve went into the break at 3-1 at least. We had plenty of chances but we weren’t clinical...

I left after the 5th went in, so I’ll have to wait to see what goal 6 was like. Burge, 4 — from world class save v Newport to costing us another goal. Grimmer, 4 — far too many people letting him off the hook on here. Failed to track back for goals 2 and 4. Hyam, 4 — what an earth were you...
