Big money signings for us doesn't equate to big by Championship standards though. Several of those players were punts. Gus and Vik at just over a million each were both cheap

Bit of revisionism here. Lots of people were pointing the finger at recruitment, where they differed was who was ultimately responsible.

Its not a cop out, we simply don't know. Unless you've got some portal in to a parallel universe you can't say with any certainty, especially given the amount of variables involved. What we can judge is how is Lampard doing, I'd say a decent job up to now and I'm confident it will continue.

We're miles off the top 4 currently, as are most the league, but if we can get 5th or 6th then there's always a chance. And maybe by the time we play 3 of them at the end of March we'll have closed that gap a bit.

It's impossible to know what the others would have done but my personal opinion is it would have been difficult to improve on the job he's done so far.

They're a bit of a basket case. I couldn't think of anything worse footballing wise than being the type of club who burn through managers every few months, (again). Having said that, I'm sure he'll be handsomely rewarded for his troubles.
