Case and point being today. Created chances, didn’t take them, drew to Hungary. Even against Germany, France looked in 3rd gear, which suggests that they were either toying with Germany, or generally weren’t all that sharp. It’d be foolish to discount France despite a very disappointing result...

It’s irrelevant because football is an outcome driven game. In all the tournaments Southgate has lead us in, we’ve got to a semi final. That’s what Southgate will be judged on. Not meaningless qualification games or friendlies.

Do you think French fans are all defeatist over their draw with Hungary? It could well be the case that Southgate’s caution pays dividends in the knockout stages. The same French and Portuguese teams we’re fawning over are led by Deschamps and Santos*. Both are managers have been criticised for...

More recently Portugal too - they looked terrible in 2016. Very disappointed with the result last night, but things can improve and as long as we’re in the tournament, there’s a chance we can win. Intense rivalries can bridge the gap in quality, it’s not quite the same, but even Finland beat...

Something to try and cheer you all up a bit. Even 1990 and 1996 had stinkers apparently. https://www.telegraph.co.uk/euro-2021/2021/06/19/dispiriting-gets-england-not-lost/

For the round of 16, yes. But the quarters and semis would be a tougher draw.

The bigger picture is that we’ve all but confirmed qualification to the next round, regardless of the result against Czech. Then, it’s knock out football and anything can happen. Portugal scrapped out of the Group in 3rd and won the tournament. A few things that really concern me: 1) Kane’s...

A lot of overreacting, we were average and Scotland played the game of their life. Think Southgate has a lot to think about to be honest. If we top the group, jobs still a goodun. Improvement needed against Czech, for sure.

Why James? Seems like we may line up with 3 centre backs as I’d be surprised if we rotated both Trippier and Walker. Personally, I’d stick with the same team and put Shaw in for Walker. Get the win against Scotland, and then rotate attacking options and get Maguire and Henderson match fitness...

Would really like to see a confident performance against Scotland today and expecting to win by a two goal margin! For all their talk leading up to the game, we’ve got to put them in their place.

Lukaku is world class. Despite drawing Belgium in the sweepstake, they really aren’t on the same level as they were in 2018. Admittedly, I thought the Eriksen incident would deflate the Denmark team as it did against Finland. Credit to them, they’ve been up for it and playing really well!

Apparently, Trippier got the nod because of his experience and leadership to protect Mings. Which makes sense because he looked shaky in the warmups alongside Shaw. Trippier looked good despite the early criticism!

All their Group games are in Munich too. I really wouldn’t be surprised to see Germany win their Group. France are still favourites, but home advantage is something worth considering.

Sweden just seem to always turn up and perform reasonably well at major tournaments. Fair play to them!

At the World Cup Capello seemed to just completely lose it and became a control freak. The no ketchup rule being the height of neuroticism. Our qualification record was fantastic, he deserve credit for that.

We’ve got to two semi-finals under Southgate. First time since 1996. Even something as small as winning the first Euros game ever. All this stuff build momentum. We lost twice to a star-studded Belgium side who were one of the favourites to win the whole thing. Had the beaten France, they’d...
