Match Thread Stoke away 10th August 12:30 - Opening day!

Swansea at home… I like Allen and he is a really good player to have in the rotation. He’s technically proficient and has a lot of energy to press teams. We did miss him at times last season when the fixtures piled up. That all said, he is punching above his weight in this squad. Not in a...

Match Thread Stoke away 10th August 12:30 - Opening day!

Bet365 are the exact kind of owners most football clubs would love to have. A sugar daddy (family now) supporter who is happy to fund the club. My Stoke supporting mate reckons that if FFP weren’t a thing, they’d outspend everyone to get promotion. Perhaps a tad exaggeration but they have a lot...

    Carsley the interim?

Potter, to his credit, is a brilliant tactician that could suit the role well. There are question marks how he’d manage a squad of big characters that exist in the England team. As for Carsley, personally I’m a fan. His work in the U21 setup was really good, exciting football and adaptive to...

    Carsley the interim?

My prediction is that Carsley will get the job on an interim basis, we’ll try for Pep at the end of the season and if he says no as well as Carsley doing well, LC will get the job on a perm. I’m surprised Potter hasn’t (seemingly) been contacted! A like for like situation for Southgate in 2017.

    Are we being “hyped”?

I’m happy with out attacking options, there are lingering doubts about the midfield and defence depth and quality. Midfield in particular because it’s a demanding position and two of our players have struggled to play a high volume of games - Palmer is not a CM.

    Are we being “hyped”?

Agreed, we have spent a lot of money. The relegated teams from the Prem will have squads where they’ve spent 90-100+ million on their starting 11s. A sobering comparison was in our first season in the championship when we lost to Bournemouth at home, their squad was worth 90-100m and ours was...

    Are we being “hyped”?

Personally, I can’t see us having the best attack. Either way, last season was a massive deviation from the rule. Most previous seasons, the 3 promoted teams will have defensive records in the top 4. The year we missed out on promotion, we had the 4th best defence in the league, being Luton...

    Are we being “hyped”?

On the current squad, I’d say we wouldn’t have the distance to go for automatics. The teams around us have much bigger squads. You add 2-3 players to the mix and keep Sheaf, then automatics is a distinct possibility in my view. We’ve got a lot going for us but if our defence is 5-6th best in...

    2024-25 Championship preview and predictions

This is a fair prediction. Our squad is in a better position than it’s ever been but the numbers are still short. With Sheaf and Kitching for Saturday, we make a 9 man bench with Burroughs. It’s too top heavy atm but there’s time to add to our group. Quite a lot of depth in forward positions...

    Transfer Rumour Milan Van Ewjik

€10m may well be a ‘fair valuation’ but it’s unlikely to be our valuation. I’m pretty sure MVE had the opportunity to go to PSV and possibly even Ajax last season so I just can’t see what would’ve changed for him after last season. One more good season with us and he’s guaranteed Prem football...

    2024-25 Championship preview and predictions

It was a decent podcast! Some interesting picks, especially Watford finishing bottom! Burnley and Leeds for Top 2 is sensible. I can see Luton finishing 3rd and as long as we’re 4-6th I’m happy. Top 4 should be a realistic goal after our business is concluded and should be pushing automatics...

    2024-25 Championship preview and predictions

Really? I’m not trying to knock Bidwell too much, but he isn’t a leader in any statistical metric in defence or attack. In short, he’s a solid, 2.5-3/5 player. We’ve looked at 2-3 options for that position this window so it’s likely this season will be his last for us. Besides, even the...

    Bristol Away (Cup) ticket details

Took me into the 1100+ band now so a no brainer for me. The difference for in travelling to the CBS or Ashton Gate is about 10-20m for me.

Conspiracy confirmed: Sheaf to Palace with MVE and Wright staying.

I have an U22 ticket available, my brother is unable to go now. Preferably would like to get face value for it.

    Transfer Rumour Milan Van Ewjik

I don’t think we’d sell for anything less than 10 million GBP, let alone Euro! Going to Ajax/Feyenoord would represent progress for his career in the long term and doubt either have the financial clout. There will definitely be Prem teams interested in signing him next summer if he maintains...

    Transfer Rumour Nicolas Madsen

Featured at LW in the two that mattered, Bremen and Everton. Playing CM v Getafe and Stevenage where we swap teams at HT (or thereabouts) isn’t really the same. I doubt Palmer will make many appearances at CM this season - if he comes on at AM and we shift to a 4-2-3-1, maybe. He isn’t a CM.

    2024-25 Championship preview and predictions

The hope with our defence is that they’re all young players who can develop but it remains the case the personnel is unchanged. If we sell Sheaf as rumoured, as well as signing 2 CMs, we’d need to get a CB over the line and ideally an upgrade on Bidwell. A solid player but isn’t really...

    Sheaf

Makes sense, they missed on Gyokeres and there’s been plenty of Championship players able to make the step up as Palace learned with Wharton. It’s a good move for him, I understand why, for example, Vik didn’t fancy his Prem options last season.

    Sheaf

No, but it’s a 3 year cycle so who knows what that picture looks like from now. It’s why Hull have been in a bit of trouble because their profitable season from 4 seasons (or so) is out of the reporting range. It’s a constraint we need to be aware of so when people say we need several more...
