Nothing of substance has been said about Kitching apart from that ‘he’s a tosser’ which is too vague and feels like a smear to be honest. Thomas and Kitching has been our best partnership all season and it’s a travesty Kitching has played 7-8 games all season.

Which presumably means there’s money in the pot. With Sheaf being out for 5-6 weeks, signing a RW just isn’t a priority for this window. The spectre of FFP is also probably looking too somehow. We’re operating on smaller revenues than the big boys in this league on parachute payments.

It’s nothing against Binks or Lati, all season I’ve been convinced we just don’t concede as many goals with a pairing of Kitching and Thomas. If you can make a healthy profit of £1.5-2m on Lati, it makes sense for both parties to move him on.

My impression is that we tried to be too clever with how we set out to play.

It’s cost Robins his job to be honest. He should have kept faith in the team from last season and found a way to integrate EMC and Rudoni in the team as a foundation. We’ve looked far better defensively with Kitching at CB in the team all season.

There’s nothing wrong with being ambitious, I’m pretty certain Kalvin Phillips was a Championship player around Sheaf’s age. I just wouldn’t bet on that outcome. Establish Premier league player one day, sure.

I’d adapt that to a 5-3-2 personally. Thomas/Lati at RCB and play Simms and BTA up front. I doubt Rapha is ready to start a game yet.

Considering he wasn’t at the races for us or Blackburn, it’s probably more likely the case that last year was a great experience for him in terms of development but wasn’t quite ready to make a mark at our level. So often in football, you’ve just got to be at the right place at the right time...

That’s an unfair characterisation. Some players just need their minutes managed more than others. If you have a player that gets injured quite often, it’s just common sense you mitigate the risk. As it happens, Sheaf has one of the highest minutes per game whenever he plays.
