    3 games to go

I don’t think it’s a given Bristol City finish in the top 6 either to be honest. They have won 4 away games all season, playing Luton and Leeds away before wrapping up the season playing PNE. It’s likely they will finish in the top 6 because Boro needs to be faultless to overturn the 3-4 point...

Match Thread Plymouth Argyle - Coventry City Match Thread - Monday 21st Apr

Stoke (pre-Lampard) and Pompey we can kind of write off because Portsmouth’s home record is 10th in the league and accounts for 73.5% of their points this season. For reference, we have 13 home wins this and only have 6 more home points than Pompey at home. Derby was the biggest let down...

    Joe Edwards Red Card

The way game is officiated nowadays, you’d think football was a non-contact sport like basketball. Players constantly look for, and even initiate, contact as an excuse to go down. We’re obviously biased because the Boro penalty has kept them in the playoff hunt but if we conceded that penalty...

Match Thread Plymouth Argyle - Coventry City Match Thread - Monday 21st Apr

I’m confident we’ll roll these over comfortably. As disappointing as the draw v Hull was, we were pretty dominant, albeit the chance creation being quite low. Plymouth need to win more than we do so that should give us the opportunity to put them to the sword. 2-0 win.

    Grimes Sheaf Rudoni

For the club, it’s arguably a blessing in disguise. If we were going to sign a player of his calibre we’d be spending £5+ million and need corresponding wages to reflect that quality. Sheaf signed his last contract in 22/23 so his wages won’t be massive. From both club and Sheaf individually...

    3 games to go

That just isn’t a likely scenario and even 2 losses wouldn’t leave us dead and buried unless Boro are 3 points ahead of us and 9+ GD ahead of us on the final day. A bookmaker would give you sound odds for that. For us, there’s one ‘must win’ match remaining: Boro and that’s it. Obviously you’d...

    Grimes Sheaf Rudoni

Sheaf will stay/renew his contract imo. He’s had a challenging year so any serious Prem interest has presumably gone so his best option is to help us get promoted this/next season.

    Not normally one to bleat…

It was genuinely one of the dumbest 2nd yellow cards I’ve seen.

    Bassette myth

The game had petered out by the time they’d came on. We did lose a lot of control after Grimes went off which was a minor concern. As good as Allen has been in some games, it wasn’t his best cameo yesterday. The thing that did annoy me with Bassette was the naivety to attempt taking on a player...

    3 games to go

I did think about that possibility! We could win the next 2 and unless we have a favourable GD swing, Boro could afford to get 3 points out of the next 2 if they beat us.

    3 games to go

It obviously isn’t. The context I’m putting forward is that even if we fall over on Monday and next weekend, we still have the insurance policy of playing Boro at home. Which puts us in a strong position.

    3 games to go

Exactly which is why we’re both relaxed about finishing 6th. The combination required for a 6 point swing going into the final day just isn’t likely. Going into yesterday’s match, there was about a 68% chance we’d finish in the playoffs and the needle would have moved to 70-80% following...
  13. Mucca Mad Boys

    3 games to go

That game was a rather freak result and they had 3 shots on target. The home records of Luton and Plymouth aren’t great so we should be confident of picking up 2-3 points as a minimum. Going into the final day behind Boro by 2 points (worst case scenario) gives a good opportunity to leap frog...

    Run In Thread

Without being cocky, I’m reasonably confident we’ll finish 5th.
  15. Mucca Mad Boys

    3 games to go

Every game is a scrap for us too. If we control those games as we have done against Hull and WBA, I just can’t see us failing to win any of the next 2 games. For Luton and Plymouth, they will need to defend for their lives but make no mistake, they also need to win games which pressure on them.
  16. Mucca Mad Boys

    3 games to go

If we beat Boro on the final day, we could more or less do what we want between then and now. I’m confident we’ll get 4 points from Plymouth and Luton. The pressure is all on them.
  17. Mucca Mad Boys

    3 games to go

You’re overthinking things Otis! Do a simple role reversal, with 9 points left to play for, we are 3 points ahead of Boro. You wouldn’t trade places with them because they have to be faultless. Even then, unless they are 3 points ahead of us going into the final day, they won’t be comfortable...

    Dasilva Redemption

Credit where it’s due, Da Silva has been a strong performer in more recent games on both sides of the ball.

    3 games to go

My bad, I didn’t clarify the point that it’d be massive for Leeds because they’d still want to win the league, presumably. Unless Sheff U win, Burnley could pip Leeds to the title. So the Leeds v Bristol will still have a lot on it, especially given Bristol’s weak away record. Yes, it’s...

Could you explain the maths please? Boro have to beat us to make the playoffs in all likelihood.
