I'm not sure its realistic to say they didn't have a strategy. This isn't their first business. It's clear plan A didn't work, so they moved onto plan B (which was likely guided in part by market forces).

You've touched on something around the recession. As a hedge fund they'll have been hit quite badly by that, and their profits are nothing like what they were pre-2008. As a minimum, I'm guessing it had some impact on their strategy for CCFC. Not going to start defending every move they've...
