O'Hare is a Burden on the Team

Incredibly exciting to see him getting back to his best. The criticism he was getting on here a few weeks ago was ridiculous.

    Comedians

Saw Frank Skinner workshopping his new set in a small venue a few months ago, it was pretty good!

    Super league nonsense

So you would rather go back to the pre-1991 version of English football? And you think that will thrive in 2024?

    Super league nonsense

It’s a literal pyramid scheme, of course it’s trickle down bollocks! English football is not going to suddenly become a post-capitalist Corinthian utopia if you get rid of the big clubs. It will just become a poorer, more precarious version of its current self.

    Prague attack

One of the board’s most prolific posters described Muslims as “the most racist population on Earth”, whereas the board’s own admin gets extremely upset if people try to blame violent protests on the far-right. You fit in just fine here.

    Boxing Day

    Saturday attendances? These days?

    Prague attack

I think you have to actively declare yourself an Islamophobe to win the gold star for prejudice on the board these days.

Match Thread Sunderland - Coventry City Match Thread - Saturday 23rd Dec

Hard to believe that the username steve30000 was the best one available for a new user. I say that as someone whose username is “SBT”.

Do you want to discuss boring politics?

Think it’s unlikely there will be any debates tbh. The Biden-Trump debates in 2020 were genuinely unwatchable anyway.

    Super league nonsense

Kicking out the pyramid’s most profitable members is just going to suck out revenue from the rest of the league and intensify the financial pressure on the broadcasters etc - I imagine it would mean more disruption to the lower league teams, not less. It’s not a particularly fair system, but...

    Recommend a book

Have you read Superintelligence by Nick Bostrom? Gets pretty impenetrable in places but is a fantastic introduction to AI Noise is interesting in places - picks up from Thinking Fast And Slow (Kahneman is one of Noise’s co-authors) with more of a focus on how people make judgements. Nowhere...

    Super league nonsense

I’d be equally concerned that they just let a team of influencers play a few games. The numbers for Real Madrid vs KSI & Thibz would be mega.

Do you want to discuss boring politics?

I don’t think it’s ever a good thing for a candidate to face several dozen criminal indictments and the very real possibility of prison. But I do think the court drama offers an occasionally useful distraction from the fact that he is all over the place policy-wise, and is acting erratically...

    Super league nonsense

Well I’m saying the horse has already bolted on this one - the UCL has already had a massively distorting effect on European football, so I’m not sure why this new ESL proposal is the straw that breaks the camel’s back for you. I also find the idea that English football can be magically fixed...

    Super league nonsense

You’d let them go and reform the pyramid without them even though they’d still be free to play in the domestic leagues as normal?

    Super league nonsense

The instinctive reaction from fans of the big PL teams to slam this proposal is quite odd, given the same fans spend every other waking hour lauding the current UEFA system which is hardly a model of competition and sustainability, and holds the fans in open contempt.
