English and British have become weirdly more interchangeable over the past few years. I’d say I was the former (and proud of it!) but the distinction seems less important than ever.
Celebrating patron saints is for schoolchildren and Americans really
Find it baffling the amount of people complaining about the team being bottle jobs and then predicting certain defeat a few minutes later. Time for a bit of grit from players and fans alike. This is a game we should win, and can win.
You don’t really need to worry about letting Collins down gently at this point, because if you drop him at this stage of the season for someone who hasn’t played since the Biden Administration it’s painfully obvious that he’s never playing for us again.
I find the Simms pile-on a little strange. If we don’t go up this season, it’s not because of anyone’s failure to score goals, it’s the comedy routines at the back that have screwed us over for two years in a row now.
There is no way a 21 year old with zero league appearances who’s barely even trained with the senior team is going to be thrown in to a Championship playoff race because he’s “a great shot stopper”. It’s nonsense.
I’d say the defence seems to trust him, he just can’t save shots.
Will our back four play the same passes to Wilson they would play to Collins? If not, how does that impact us? Is it more or less harmful than the risk of another Collins boo-boo?
It’s arguably the biggest call of Lampard’s time here so far - if Wilson comes in and unsettles the back four in our biggest games of the season then we’re fucked. As fans we can comfortably say that anyone else in goal would offer more confidence, but do the players agree?
Given the fixtures involved, you’d rather be in our position than Bristol City’s or Boro’s. I think momentum and squad morale is going to be key, and I do at least think Lampard has helped us greatly with both of those.
