    Stoke player ratings

Dovin is not the Messiah but a very good prospect who I’m happy is our No1. Lots of development in him. He needs to own the box a bit more. Thomas was fairly good today. Did a couple of really nice long balls but he did get some short passing totally wrong and needs to sort that out. Kitching...

    Transfer Rumour Kitching to Blackburn

Binks is pretty slow. No change of pace, no spring in his step. A real plodder when he runs. I like him but mobility and urgency are probably his biggest weakness. Kitching isn’t lighting but he can vary his speed and use it in bursts. His problem is that he commits and ends up having to chase...

    Overrated players

I certainly remember him getting a lot of richly deserved abuse. For a player of his standing, it was a shocking performance.

    Overrated players

He definitely got on the pitch. I remember seeing us lose 4-1 at QPR in 2004. Him and Staunton both played and were shit. Sherwood just did nothing. Staunton was trying in fairness but in the end, I had to cover my eyes when he started running. So slow is was frightening.

I personally think it’s harsh. But there’s a hint of something there. I can remember wondering why Liverpool wanted to buy him off us. He was over 30 and on the wane. Was Souness going mad? Etc….

    Overrated players

Over-rated Craig Bellamy (including by himself) Biggest disappointment (apart from many already mentioned) would be Paul Cook. Was touted for years as the player we needed in midfield. Wolves would never sell (or quoted us a fuck-off price). Then we get Chris Marsden who was mint but left us...

    Overrated players

He was the hottest property at the time. Versatile, fast, strong. On top of 2 really good seasons for us, he looked good at USA ‘94 too. (Even if Ireland were poor). I can understand why he cost so much. Not sure why it didn’t work for him at Liverpool. They woukd be justified in calling him...

    Liam Kitching

He’s not Van der Ven but he is quicker than most people give him credit for. Also agree how it’s noticeable he’s lost a few pounds and looks a bit sharper. I said in the summer he’d be fine. Just needed to sort his head out. He does need to string a few more performances together but pleased for...

    Jamie allen

Allen is a decent championship midfielder. He needs to be played in the right position with the right players around him (I.e. not as a CDM as he was v Stoke). He won’t set the world alight but I’m happy to big him up for having a good game. Kitching is a confidence player. Too many people play...

Match Thread Supporter's Meeting with Doug King Match Thread

Hell of a statement that. All the talk of bringing in new people in new roles. But the board? Yeah that’ll be me. I can do all that.

Right who's the next manager then?

If the new manager comes from that list, it’s Bloomfield for me. Not excited at all at the prospect of FL but at least Alex Neil has dropped off the radar. Hoping Robins gets back into management as soon as he wants to and proves his point to DK. Not actually sure he’ll get that many offers at...

    Ball carrying centre halves

Not a particular fan of Lati but he had a very decent game yesterday. Put his body on the line, read the game well and defended well for the most part.

    Kitching vs Binks

Kitching’s form at the end of last season was so bad that we needed an alternative and he needed to know he had competition. The shirt was Binks’ to lose but I’m sure Kitch will come back in soon. His aggression, pace and positioning are all superior. I haven’t seen him do the big switch balls...

What’s with the trend of ….

Don’t live near Cov so I go to more away games than home. When it’s not a sell out, can genuinely say I’ve never had a problem in a group of 4 or 5. Tbf, often cut it fine to get in (not a fan of pre-match) but always found space somewhere. If anyone asked me to move, I’d move but the question...

    Rudoni …?

Sheaf is another one who didn’t exactly look great at first.

    In Defence

Kitching and Binks together could work but there’s very few examples of a successful pairing of two left footed CBs in a back 4. It’s different for right footed CBs because they often get placed at LCB in teams without a left footed CB. Some really excel at it (like Terry or Van Diijk as high...
