That would be awful, but I don’t think we’ve established that’s what’s happened, have we?

If they win their last two games (Switzerland away, Slovenia at home) and Kosovo lose their last two then they’ll likely make the playoffs. But hard to pin the blame on him even if they fail.

If stewards feel like they can’t come to work because of their religion or race, then that’s appalling.

I meant more about teams taking fewer shots - is there evidence of that? There must be data around too about whether teams are getting the ball forward more quickly, but I don’t know where to get it.

I’m not sure if that’s true given that the number of goals has (according to that article) been steadily climbing.

Don’t judge us till we’ve played 10 games

You’re right, but after 10 games both the results and the underlying stats suggest that we are capable of blitzing teams more often than not. I’ve had to upgrade my expectations for the season in my head, we have a genuine shot at winning the league.

I think that’s horses for courses really…there were plenty of boring seasons at the top during the 90s and 00s too. More than a decade of Man Utd, Chelsea and occasionally Arsenal taking turns to win the league, often by huge margins. But this is a different thing to the original point I was making!

No, I mean things like first touches, passing range, close control. Obviously the top players from 20 years could still thrive in today’s era, I just mean that the average PL player today has a skill set and technical ability far beyond the average player of 20 years ago.

I think reasonable people can disagree on which playing styles are interesting to watch, but on a purely technical level today’s average PL player is far superior to PL players of 20 years ago and it’s not even close.

Just a fantastic signing from Austin and the team, and a real sign of what good coaching can do to a player. He is worth eight figures comfortably at this stage but we’re obviously not selling anyone before next summer at the earliest. Torp himself deserves a lot of credit for adapting to a new...

https://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/football/articles/cjw9l644delo Curious why these stewards had “concerns” - genuinely can’t tell at this point if there were issues with antisemitism or Islamaphobia. Whole thing is a mess.

I think this goal is a perfect example of why I take issue with people saying the PL isn’t as good as it used to be - the technique on display from multiple players across the park is above and beyond what anyone except the very best players from previous generations were capable of, it’s...
