Well quite, but there are other ways of assessing a player’s ability to offer something beyond “did they play well last week” I don’t think we’re going to sign Hamer and I certainly don’t think we need to in order to get promoted but I’m a romantic at heart…

Looking at the previous winners of the Championship POTS award, seems to me like the vast majority (if not all) of them either went up a level or continued to perform strongly. If past performance isn’t a good indicator of current ability then what is?

It’s usually a pretty good indicator that they are a good player at that level, isn’t it? We’re obviously not signing him but the urge from some people to talk down his ability in the Championship is strange.
