We do seem to have great difficulty finishing teams off when we are on top and quite often let the opposition back into games.

As has been said. Many of those teams play each other. Don't think you can look at average points per game. You can look however at history and that tells us if we win 9 games we will have 74 points and 74 points will probably be enough for a top 6 place. 9 wins out of 15 is doable for sure.
