Blackburn and WBA are in serious trouble. Both out of the bottom 3 by 1 game. 1 point in the last 5 games for WBA and 2 points in the last 5 games for Blackburn. All clubs other than Sheffield Wednesday are picking up more points. Blackburn are only out of the bottom 3 by a GD of 3.

We have a few people on here that either don't understand the complexities of transfers or are simply WUM's. We are where we are because of King. He isn't going to risk losing 180m just for not doing what is best. It isn't King choosing the players. He just does the negotiating.

There's not many players good enough for the Grimes role that are realistic targets so it's difficult to bring someone in.

We're not after average Championship players. We're after players that are top Championship/lower Prem. This will mean a lot of the time they will want a replacement in before letting the player go. We had to wait for Palace to spend 35m on a replacement for Esse before we could sign him.

And with that comes a fixture congestion towards the end of the season. I hope they have a run in the cup like we did.

So who has said we should be happy with what we have? Everyone would love more signings but most understand how hard it is to bring in the calibre of players we need to be able to play a big part for the rest of the season.

So they wouldn't want him on loan? We're the only side that didn't rely on loans for outfield players. Now we have spaces for them. There's a good chance of keeping Esse permanently after this season. He loves working with Lampard and is going to improve even more.

They closed the gap when we had several players missing and couldn't put anyone on the bench that could change a game. Against Millwall we brought on Torp, BTA and Saka on with 20 minutes to go and Simms with 10 minutes to go. Against Leicester we brought on Saka and Wright on 67 minutes...

It's not all bad if he stays. They have Middlesbrough and Hull at home to come.

Thomas is still carrying a calf injury. We don't know if he will be fit for tomorrow but if there's any doubt he should be left out. The bonus is he would have been out without getting the 3 game ban.

I hope we can sign Esse even if just on loan for now. My Palace supporting mate says he is very good and that's him comparing him to other Prem players......
