This seems a decent summary of where we are with antivirals and other treatments: Where We're at with Vaccines and Treatments for COVID-19

I think we are looking at antivirals as well, but the obvious answer is that some people have undiagnosed underlying illnesses and there’s been lots of reports of people suddenly deteriorating in a matter of hours after feeling OK, so you’d still get significant excess deaths even if hospital...

If you can recatch it in a short (I.e. less than a year) period, a vaccine won’t be coming. I think it was Whitty who made that point right at the start of all this.

I’d be amazed if more than 10% of the population have had it considering the results of the antibody surveys in other countries all came out at around 5%. Nutshell is: no differences in catching it for any particular age group. No info on transmission as this was just a survey of who has it...

Our school sent out no information on how it would work, said they knew no more than us having watched the briefing, and were very clear that parents who choose not to send kids back won’t be punished. None of which filled us with confidence.

One problem is we have one of the highest primary school class sizes in the western world IIRC. Knowing my kids school I have doubts they can safely hold all the kids at once. The big one is we are about the only developed nation on the planet without a working track and trace system in place...

There's 100% not microphones like everyone suspects. I think this is just the quality of online advertising targeting these days, and obviously the usual Frequency Bias (The Baader-Meinhof Phenomenon) like a lot of stuff in this thread.

Maybe ranting is a poor word, but the whole “DAE evil Tories?” stuff in general. It’s so outside the world view of Tory voters and floating voters that it doesn’t cut through like letting them hang themselves with their own targets. I loved Corbyn at the start, during the leadership campaign...

Forensic innit? You build up your case over the trial (next 4 years) then lay it all out at once in a damning summation (general election). Realistically nothing can “happen” to a government with a huge majority until then. The only threat to Johnson is the rest of the Tory Party and that’ll...

Id much rather LOTO than the public, for a start they’ve got access to the HoC Library and the civil service rather than Facebook memes from their cousin Dave.

EFL to end season this week - City likely to be promoted

The longer this goes on the more sympathetic I am to a strict reading of the rules that says all unplayed games are void and the season ends as it is.

Then you get into all sorts of moving parts though. We’re they the better teams when you played them? Should points against Bolton at the start of the season be worth as much as they are at the end? What if you played them when on/off form? It just becomes a mess.

Why do we need the app if we’ve got the tracers? You’d have thought 10k cases/day would be enough. Bit confused on that one.

PMQs isn’t where the country gets run though. It’s weekly political entertainment/theatre. The actual scrutiny happens in select committees. I agree it’s a silly excess, same as the palava around opening of parliament and other traditions.
