That might have been their model but they are top dogs in Portugal now and in the CL. That's going to change a lot, eg ambitions, players they can attract and not least of all budgets. If you are all about selling players, staying in and going deep in the CL can add value to all your players...

I wouldn't be that stunned if he went for more than the release fee. Release fee likely requires the money up front - I suspect e.g. Arsenal would want to structure it for P&S.
