    Refugees welcome?

What actually is, is that people are here on our doorstep and they are desperate. Whether other people offer refuge or not, these people have sold everything and risked their lives to get here and they cannot go back - there are no people smugglers going in the other direction and they have no...

    Refugees welcome?

My flat has room for myself, my wife and my kid ( when she visits ). I believe in education as well, but no-one has asked me to have a school in my flat. Believing in assisting refugees doesn't mean they have to move in with me. The container village is brand new and clean and tidy. So, actually...

    Refugees welcome?

The arrivals in Kiel are living in a Container village and are better off there than in my flimsy Ikea wardrobe.

    Refugees welcome?

No, rape and murder have been mentioned to me by people in the uk who seem to think that all Syrians are potential ISIS Fighters. I don't live in the UK and there isn't room in my flat in Germany, but I will join in helping with the other Volunteers here. There are many war torn countries in the...

    Refugees welcome?

You are right. I have a lot to do with Irish people over here and have some good friends and family by marriage there. I may well do that.

    Refugees welcome?

Kiel. A group of around 20 refugees were invited to the game yesterday and we all stood up and applauded them. Dresden has hardly any immigrants and is making the most fuss. They are also worried about falling tourist figures - everywhere else in Germany is booming ( including Leipzig ). This...

    Refugees welcome?

Yes, my daughter is half German. At the moment she wants to go England for a year to improve her English. I am beginning to doubt the value of that judging by the comments on here. I must admit I am tending to side with you and Grendel on this subject.

    Refugees welcome?

Well... whilst on the subject of refugees.... I was at a 3. Bundesliga game yeasterday in Kiel. About 20 Syrians were invited to the game by the club. The were not armed, did not rape anyone and were really happy at the welcome they got. The whole stadium stood up and applauded them before the...

    Refugees welcome?

No, not if you are a foreign refugee. Maybe not life threatening, but you will be treated badly. Germany is better and that is why they are coming to Germany. Our local paper ( Kieler Nachrichten ) has distributed a "Refugees welcome" poster with every copy. I won't be putting it in the window...

    Refugees welcome?

In Germany the Most anti Immigrant places are the ones with the least immigrants. As you say they have never interacted with another culture and have a fear of foreigners. I, like you, am an EU Migrant - we're ok though because we're British ( sarcasm ).

    Refugees welcome?

Are these at Calais just the Syrians? I am really concerned for the people fleeing a war zone -more so than for economic refugees ( who I empathise with - I left England to try my luck abroad when Coventry was in the dumps). The people coming up through the Balkans seem to be mainly Syrians and...

More News On Ricoh Train Station

Haven't read the whole thread, but is it possible to get a JR into the allocation of funding to a station built - up until now - for purposes including event travel to the arena ( an arena which was partly owned by CCC and now has been - in effect - sold to Wasps, who presumably were led to...

In some countries you are allowed to use glasses, or even glass ashtrays ( e.g. Estonia ).

    The beer bottle

Absolutely right. I spend most of the summer on beer festivals and beer is served mostly in glasses. Very Little trouble in comparison to the thousands of visitors.... Cannot imagine that in England. Can buy drink during football games as well - but in plastic beakers.

Coventry is Indeed Becoming Like London

Good old Nello and waiter Mario. I worked a couple of times in his "Bistro/Disco" where you had to have food ( chicken and chips ) as part of the entrance money as he only had a restaurant licence.
