    General Election 2019 thread

No Fernando, you’ll need to read back. My point was that the Tories inherited a mess (I’ve acknowledged it was due to financial crisis ie not labours doing, but also said there was nothing in reserve following years of strong growth and no recession - labours problem) The fact is Tories get...

As per above, Labour would’ve implemented the same/similar cuts as detailed in link

The point remains the same, how he says he meant it is almost irrelevant (if you believe him). As I say it’s also interesting to remind ourselves of the significant cutting labour had also planned ! (Often forgotten)

Ps propaganda ? https://www.google.co.uk/amp/s/amp.theguardian.com/commentisfree/2015/may/09/liam-byrne-apology-letter-there-is-no-money-labour-general-election also useful to remind ourselves that Labour has drawn up similar significant cutting/austerity plans. Fair play to Byrne for holding...

G7 growth rates compared to UK (I suppose the G7s performance was the Tories fault) UK economic growth within the G7 Also, was Keynes around when there was a global financial crisis caused by a sub prime lending which nearly bust a significant number of banks (that we’re holding all of our...

    General Election 2019 thread

It was a worldwide financial ‘crisis’....labour had left nothing in reserve to deal with it and as I’ve said if there hadn’t been attempts to control public expenditure (which was by then out of control - see Liam Byrne ‘there’s no money left’) you could forget borrowing at sensible rates. This...

    General Election 2019 thread

You can’t have it both ways though Shmmeee ie the worldwide financial crisis wasn’t the government at the times fault but the government trying sort the mess out following it is to blame for not dealing with it correctly ?! They were unusual and extreme times. Also you say that the government...

The EU: In, out, shake it all about....

Well it’s off table until 31 Jan. the deal is there to be accepted as a back up...if it gets brought back before the Parliament (which it will if Johnson has campaigned on it and wins) If there’s a hung parliament or Brexit party wins election then guess No Deal could be back on the table

The graph shows the strong sustained economic growth though. Labour ran a deficit for six years pre financial crisis...even though there had been strong growth and no recession for since 1993 ?! All depends what side of the political coin you’re on though. Ps I voted for labour twice during...

    General Election 2019 thread

Correct, it was a world wide financial crisis. The problem was more that they inherited a strong economy and in times of strong economic growth, spent (not saying wasted necessarily) all the cash so there was no reserves for what was for most (apart from Vince cable I hear !) the unexpected...

    General Election 2019 thread

Does get a fair bit of stick, some of it is warranted....the gold sell off, his battle for leadership with Blair and not ending boom and bust (as promised) - guess that’s why he spent all the cash available. Always thought he was just the wrong type of person to be a leader but felt he was a...

    'Fan's Favourite' XI

Tony Sheridan - what a player he could’ve been...but never was Robert Rosario (for his spell in midfield - feels bizarre writing that even now) Chris Marsden Lloyd McGrath - won the cup so maybe shouldn’t be on the list

Think grendel, sick boy and Ian might be right....another hung parliament although the opinion polls are suggesting a decent tory lead I’m not sure that will convert into seats. big gamble by Johnson and pretty sick of elections, but weighing everything up probably needed to happen (no...

The EU: In, out, shake it all about....

Interesting stuff Fernando, I hope you never have to soften those type of criteria ! (they’re essential I’d say !) Price criteria is rather important when we/government is paying though so a government giving this control away would be bizarre. Stand to be corrected in future though
