It pisses me off that when you are entitled to an NHS service which either isn’t available locally or has ridiculously long waits, to get timely treatment you have to pay the entire cost of private provision yourself. The NHS price should be reclaimable.

    Isn’t this graph a bit concerning? https://ichef.bbci.co.uk/ace/standard/976/cpsprodpb/82a0/live/cecb3d90-a03d-11ef-8ab9-9192db313061.png.webp

    Homebase

You used to be able to buy some simple and basic stuff quite cheap in Homebase and B&Q, but then they seemed to stop stocking that and it all became more expensive and they “diversified”. There really seems little excuse for a packet of screws or a light switch being twice as expensive as at...

    Homebase

It’s so much cheaper to buy stuff from Screwfix (or, sadly, Amazon if we can wait a whole 24 hrs). I read somewhere that Homebase cocked up several times, like over winter by not stocking enough heaters. Also, The Range may be buying quite a lot of the stores. So many of these household names...

Whether or not you have exercised a choice is not the definition of private health care. You could choose to have your treatment at George Eliot rather than UHCW - doesn’t make GE a private hospital.

If the NHS commissions BUPA to supply services it is paid for by the state but not provided by it.

Trump is my favourite comedian of the year already

Interesting view that NHS employees are non net contributors and are not open minded and don’t study facts.

I agree with all that, we could then have fewer disruptive international breaks as a happy byproduct.

What a disgusting creature posing as a human being. Hopefully it will come back to bite him on the arse.

The internal market - a complete waste of time and money. Contracts set up for less activity than required, loads of effort put in by Trusts to claim as much income as possible, even more effort by commissioners to avoid having to pay for what work in excess of contract had been done. Disputes...

Interesting how much more expensive the low carbon foods we will have to eat to achieve the governments new reduction target are. Add that to the increased energy costs we all face (despite the promise of a £300 p.a. reduction) and we will all be broke. But Keir doesn’t want to tell us how to...

Isn’t a lot of that what the whole Trust regime was supposed to allow? I have seen most of the rest before as well. More bureaucracy and performance gaming incoming.
