If it is that easy, why didn’t the UK just devalue the pound?

Funny that others say that the weaker countries wanted to be aligned to the Mark ( 66% of the euro ) through the Euro. The demand to join is high because of the strength of the Euro. Not many weaker countries want their currency to end up like the Bolivari. Denmark is linked to the Euro and has...

Germany exports high quality goods. The devaluation of the pound is a two edged sword. Yes initially our export goods are cheaper, but if we need to import materials or parts priced in Euro, then the advantage is soon lost.

It isn’t a failed currency experiment. Countries are still joining. My Romanian mates are happy living in Germany and rejoiced when communism collapsed. Since when does the Eu have a monopoly on bureaucrats and bankers? City of London has more. We are taking on thousands of bureaucrats to see...

That’s speculation regarding independence from the EU. If we have 10 or 20 years of decline outside the EU, we could well be queuing to rejoin.

Yes, much better post than the usual repeating of Faragist, Mail or Express catchphrases. Just I don’t agree with the conclusion of Brexit making it easier to make the world a better place. We had more power being one of the major players in a 500 million bloc. On our own we will 1) have years...

How is a union of 28 countries in an organisation with a voting structure and voting rights going to become a monolithic super state? Even Juncker expressly denied this idea. No one wants a „monolithic superstate“.

Oh really? How is sailing into a glorious sunset going? Country behind Brexit? Negotiations going well? Tories leading the polls for the forthcoming municipal elections? People pointing out what we have achieved so far? Or is it a total cock up exposing how unprepared we were? Until you can...

What is the probem with leavers? They can never tell us real benefits of leaving. OK, I'll let you have your blue passports if it humors you, but apart from slogans such as "regaining our sovereignity" which we had, "control of our borders" - which we had moreso than, say, Schengen countries...

How do you think Germans get to the USA with Aer Lingus?

The EU: In, out, shake it all about....

Just spoke to Aer Lingus Germany. They say their flights to the USA go from Shannon and Dublin and they send their clients from Germany to Ireland to get to USA. Won’t effect them as they don’t fly London USA. As Tony says Aer Lingus may get more passengers from GB if carriers cannot comply with...

So he is a cretin for doing something against his own interests just out of spite? What does make you leavers then?

At this moment in time we don’t have an agreement. So he is correct today. But, I cannot see either side being that stupid. Stupid yes, but not to the point of having to have a temporary licence to go abroad. We just cannot divorce ourselves from the EU completely. We will have to settle these...

The bilateral agreement will still be ok for US carriers. Their status hasn’t changed. So they can still fly to London. ( As I understand it. ) Just some European airlines will be effected and will have to use EU take off airports.

Another spanner in the works. They hope to find a compromise sometime in the future....... In the open skies agreement the airline company had to be majority EU owned, now it has to be majority U.K. owned on flights from the U.K. to the USA. I don’t know how far they have got on flights from the...

I have not said I am against Bitcoin, just that I think it will be superseded by something better. People see the advantages and the demand for some easy safe way of paying and receiving without being tied to one country’s currency. I am sure that a better system will evolve. Their are already...

The report was done by Alberto Alesina a fiscal hawk. He proposes the opposite of Keynsian economics and has written many books over the years. His report surprisingly coincides with his views. This budget surplus was mentioned a couple of day ago, but called „small“. What‘s the chance of...
