Depends what train you get. They have a lot of fast trains with fewer stops which are more expensive. The trains that stop at more stations are cheaper. I lived near Hamburg for 14 years and it was always the case then. Went back for Euros last summer and the inter city trains were not cheap...

The tickets are cheaper but the travel costs are still high. Fuel prices in the Fatherland are similar to the UK and the train service that used to be the pride of Germany is about as reliable as our trains now.

You have be got to be kidding. Hannover average over 38000 a week in Bundesliga 2. There are a lot of big clubs in Bundesliga 2 and had a game with 71500 at last week, Hertha Berlin v Hamburg. Hamburg took a staggering 20k there.
