Bizarre that they couldn't produce a decent vaccine…especially after creating the virus in the first place 😊

    Coronavirus Thread (Off Topic, Politics)

That’s what I’ve read as well. I also heard that a lot of elderly Chinese prefer traditional Chinese medicine so refused the vaccine. I don’t know if that’s true or not but if so, it’s a dangerous combination.

Yeah, don’t know what repayment proposal was, if it’s lumped on as an additional standing charge, like the cost of failed energy companies, that would be unfair. There would need to be a mechanism to compensate/support lowest incomes and usage…god knows how but sure it’s possible I just heard...

100%. If you’ve read back through my posts I’m all for immigration but have said this is best to done in a controlled way focussed on what the economy/UK needs. I don’t care where migrants come from, others appear to Maybe now is not the best time to discuss public spending/borrowing theories...

Do you want to discuss boring politics?

Agreed. It’s a complex area. Will probably vary depending on industries, available local labour supply, what company can afford to pay for role etc etc Same as impact on public services, housing etc. none of it is black or white

One of the energy company execs proposed the best solution. Government provides a pot of cash (say £100bn) which it loans to energy companies to supply at current prices. Basically the difference between current prices and wholesale cost they borrow from government and we all pay it back with...

Do you want to discuss boring politics?

That’s a real shame if it’s because they don’t think they’re wanted. They’re wanted exactly the same as anyone else in the world, there just isn’t preferential treatment any more. If it’s because they can’t be bothered to apply for visa etc that’s understandable. I presume a lot will depend on...

Of course oversupply of cheap labour will suppress wages, as well as stifling productivity. If labour is less cheap and plentiful, companies ordinarily invest more in processes and work practices. Anyway, back to politics…

Agree about media and government. The government haven’t ever come out with a clear consistent welcoming message which is a shame. The main aim for most was (hopefully) moving away from the political institution not the continent or it’s people

Do you want to discuss boring politics?

That’s their call. The environment is fine, otherwise 5m Europeans wouldn’t have applied for settled status. I’m sure I read around 600k* possibly returned home, probably more to do with pandemic than feeling unwelcome. Industries like hospitality and places like airports didn’t retain and a...

Do you want to discuss boring politics?

All that tells me is that the Africa workers can be arsed to go through the visa application route and the Europeans can’t….or the Europeans are happy enough and there’s opportunities for them back home after the pandemic. We talk like EU workers are banned, it’s bizarre

Do you want to discuss boring politics?

Without getting into the whole Brexit debate again ! you can have high controlled immigration ie filling up the holes you have in the economy/workforce and also even low uncontrolled immigration ie nobody wanting to come here to work even though the doors are open to all. If you think the...

Think he’s had a couple of ‘involvements’, not sure about Truss but definitely Rudd as you say

Do you want to discuss boring politics?

Just hearing that Truss is likely to be appointing favourites/loyalists for main cabinet roles and those that didn’t support her excluded or in diminished roles If that’s the case…when will they learn ?! There’s a lot riding on Kwarteng…hopefully not Truss

    USSR invades Ukraine.

Firstly, fair play for taking a family in Otis. Thats an amazing thing to do. What’s more curious is the comments about Biden. Initially Biden suggested it wouldn’t be too bad if Russian had some of the high Russian populated areas…although might’ve been a senior moment ! Since then though they...
