Not sure that's right. If anything it would've made the pathway much easier for him as clubs would've been able to secure him on a cut price deal - which means more options. As others have said I'm also fairly sure he was angling for a move in Jan as well.

It's a trivial argument. Even without Thorn we would've almost certainly gone down the season after as SISU would've pushed through further player sales to cover the losses and once again, as we saw in the summer of 11/12, barely any incomings would've been brought in.

I think the club will keep Allen for that very reason. It'd cost more to replace him than keep him. He's a fairly low cost option for the role he plays really. Unless he's keen to move on there's not much point in putting time and resource into replacing a player that doesn't need replacing...

10 days left still and January is a notoriously difficult window to operate in. We're not in a position to pay above the odds or offer significant transfer fees / wages so it is what it is. Easy for fans to criticise when they're not at the coalface of it.

That's not entirely true. Most sensible ones think he's just a victim of their own success. He needs time to adapt to the Championship which he didn't get last season. As mentioned, he's more of a work in progress signing.

I think that's probably just the club's stance from a comms POV when questioned about transfers. That's not to say anything is imminent, but regardless I suspect it's a pre-approved response when faced with these types of questions.

It wouldn't be practical for clubs to leave speaking to agents until the transfer window opens. Logistically it would be a nightmare. Not sure why fans make such a big deal of it tbh. Pretty much every single club does it, including ours.
