Historically a more successful club aswell - yes they’ve had a few bad years, but they own Ewood park for a start. we might be off on our travels in 5 years time even if you take Blackburn out the other mentioned clubs are far more attractive

I’d argue they’re more stable club, with more money to play with, and former premier league winners. They’ve also been around the play offs for a few seasons now

The higher we go the player quality pool becomes smaller and you’re competing against these teams for the same players Sunderland, Middlesbrough, Blackburn are more attractive options as would millwall (the London aspects) they’re also going to pay more if the ambition is the same at all...

Even later on… when we lost King and Gunarsson…

That’s true - but if we’re after top 6, it would be reasonable to assume we’re looking at the same players as West Brom, Sunderland, Middlesbrough - Possibly Millwall and Blackburn. all of those teams likely to offer more - who’s the player likely to pick, us or them? I leave out Norwich and...

But that’s a double edged sword - if you show ambition the fans then expect you to put up. Remember operation Premiership? you’ve also got the issue of ambitious players saying “yeah I’m on board” but they’d assume you were being backed and therefore the wages are likely to be higher

We also signed Keith O’Neil and Tim Sherwood. The fact is you can’t be sitting there going, “nah sorry don’t fancy buying x - he might do his cruciate and we’d be shit out of luck”

This is what I’ve been saying - we’d be throwing our toys out the pram if Joy did this

You can’t run a transfer window on being worried about players doing their ACL

When we play our first game of the season with Robins telling us our one signing to replace Hamer and Gyokeres is one of real quality - he was excellent in the centre midfield role for Wrexham in their national league winning side - Tongue in cheek of course

Didn’t we spend money on Hilsner, Jobello Kastaneer and Tyler Walker?

Not at all. But for every sheaf, Hamer and Gyokeres there’s been a Jobello, DaCosta, Hilsner, Wakefield, maguire, Kastaneer, Allasani,

Or we could do what we ended up doing when we sold McSheffrey and spread the risk over 3/4 shite players and nearly get relegated

And what happens if those 3/4 future players get injured? Or turn out not to be as good. you can deal with hypotheticals all the way

Doesn’t make him wrong - this model is not workable in the championship - as quoted by Tim Fisher. I’m not saying throw 100s millions at it, but if you want to challenge you need to buy better players, or else you’ll continue to stagnate and eventually get relegated. See us and Ipswich and to...

We’ve competed this season. We fell off half way through last season. This season was the lowest points total for the play offs in years. what concerns me is what Doug does if we say finish 15th. robins clearly doesn’t have the tools to regularly be top 6, will he be thrown under the bus?
  17. H

    Hamer

Which is fine - but if you’re going to make statements about competing with these clubs regularly - you got to back it properly

I said this the other day - The play off final between us and Luton isn’t a common thing. Generally money will talk and the higher paying teams will be there or there abouts
  19. H

    Hamer

I’d hazard a guess that all teams in the top 6 next season will have at least one player on 20k a week. Doug talks about play offs regularly - he needs to start competing with the Middlesbrough’s, West Brom’s and Sunderland’s.

It’s probably going rate in the championship. It’s denial. Doug is no better than SISU. He’s just better at PR
