Agree with the points made, but I'd still argue that even Man U, Chelsea and Spurs play a refined version of "long ball" when compared to the rest of Continental Europe. The only top flight sides we have that pass it as much as a European side are Swansea, Arsenal and maybe Wigan-and they do it...

This whifs more than a bit. I find it incredibly unlikley that he is on that much, but more to the point: if they were going to ask him to take a pay cut to 1.5k p/w, why on earth did they extend his supposed 8k p/w deal only a few months ago? Surely they'd have rather just released him?
