Disagree. We need better than either him or Sheaf from a forward passing POV. Neither is particularly comfortable switching the ball or playing balls for the strikers to run into from deep. They’re both good players with many good features but we’re missing something from the side overall.

We had this with GKs after Oggy/Hedman/Kirkland, and arguably strikers after Dublin and Keane. Silly high standards. Whoever comes in at CM is on a hiding to nothing as well.

People really need to stop leaning on Simms Sunderland record though. It means nothing to have one purple patch. He’s still got to prove himself.

Hit shot power would be several points above Goddens, his finishing several points below. Godden couldn’t have set up our second today, that’s the ultimate difference. But equally Simms often looks like he can’t shoot straight or trap a bag of sand. The hope is we can train that into him...

Ultimately that’s the difference and also what worries me about any bid for Langstaff, being a frankly world class finisher as Godden is IMO, isn’t enough on its own at this level where you need to contribute to the team for 90 mins. Is as bad as a showboating AM who doesn’t track back or a CB...
