I think the point my insomniac brain was trying to make is that Playoffs are really only enjoyable IMO if you win them, but the lack of pressure and novelty teams in the FA Cup mean the journey itself is fun.

Not just that. It’s two weeks off preseason, it essentially gets us nothing if we don’t go up, and we did it all last year. This would be only the second FA Cup semi in my life and the first since I started supporting City proper.

They’re going to be up for it enough cos it’s silverware that we’re unlikely to catch them unawares. Good enough to beat us easily if they don’t fuck up, unlike a Forest or similar. It’s got drab 2/3-0 all over it.

Speaking to friends from Iran and Libya I’ve heard similar stories. The Iranian has been here since Uni and still has his social media monitored by the regime with potential consequences to family back home.

Is there an argument for finishing 7th or below if we’re fairly sure we aren’t going to make it just so we get that extra weeks prep next season? We all love the hope and the jolly but dispassionately we aren’t likely to go up this season with the top three looking how they are and our injuries.
