Why would a substituted player require the referees permission to re-enter the field of play. I'm struggling to think of an example of that happening in a game. Would this not be more applicable? that only states appropriate disciplinary action, not an automatic caution, and as others have said...

100% happens every single game. Not to mention that when someone’s been subbed and is walking round the pitch they often cut corners which is a player in full kit on the pitch while the ball is in play

I sit near where the subs warm up at the CBS. Every game players run on their pitch doing warm ups while the game is in play. Never seen one even warned let alone booked
