    Jon Venables recalled to prison

Lets face it the prison system is rehabilitating virtually no one. Its also not acting as much of a punishment / deterrent. Maybe time for a rethink, what are the alternatives?

The EU: In, out, shake it all about....

What foreign aid are we paying via the EIB? I don't really see the problem with agreeing the methodology. Its not a simple calculation so surely agreeing the methodology first is sensible. If that can't be agreed what is the point in moving on to other things?

The called up capital is under £2bn isn't it? The rest is subscribed but uncalled. The likelihood of that all being called is remote and there would be a negotiation to be had that we aren't liable for any further calls on that. Not sure what Barnier has to do with it, he's not part of the EIB...

We don't collect as it stays in the EIB. When we leave we will get a payment of over £10bn to cover our share.

Was in Sweden a couple of weeks back and didn't see or hear of any problems. Is there any data on the number of attacks by migrants that show the increase? Google only seems to bring up the usual suspects (breitbart, infowars, mail, express)

The current EU funding cycle goes past 2019 and we have already agreed to that so will of course be liable to meet our agreed commitments. As I've said before it would have made more sense to have the exit in sync with the end of a funding cycle.

I'm assuming there isn't otherwise you wouldn't have asked the question. So I suppose that leaves the EU with the option to just push the UK out of the EIB, as being a member of the EU is a condition of membership, without repaying our £10bn share or our share of future loan repayments. The...

    Ashes 17/18 Thread

Think there will be words being had by the Aussie bowlers about the state of the pitch. Think its a drop in pitch which they will also be doing elsewhere so fingers crossed they're all like that.

Decent recovery. Aussie bowlers aren’t going to be happy with the pitch that’s been prepared. No play after lunch, rain.

    Budget 2018

Why on earth are they questioning McDonnell on nationalisation, which would be years after a Labour win with no election due until 2022, on the day of a Conservative budget?

Where have you given your opinion rather than paste links from others? Its a simple question. There is a published EU position paper which shows their basis for calculating what is owed by the UK and what is due to the UK. What specific points in that do you think aren't correct?

The UK is a guarantor to loans made by the EIB while we are members. Once we leave the EU we will also leave the EIB and won't have any further liability. The money that has already been paid out by the UK will be reimbursed once the loans are settled. If a recipient country defaults we share...
