The refs that are on BT Sport often say players should go down 'if he had gone down it would have been a pen'. If that's what the refs are saying how can you expect players to try and stay on their feet.

You've answered your own question there. If everyone could see what the ref did there would be even more questions about the dodgy decisions and it would be a lot harder for the league to ignore the poor standard of officiating.
