    General Election 2019 thread

I'm not convinced that whoever Labour elect as their next leader won't get the same treatment unless they abandon the left again to go for the Blair type option. Won't be on the same issues of course but they will find a stick of some sort and use it.

That's a dangerous game though isn't it? If the 'will of the people' is a referendum and Johnson keeps refusing are they just going to say OK and forget about it?

Would be interesting to see the campaign if there were another referendum given that last time it was based on 'better together' and staying in the EU! Don't think the EU would be beyond bending the rules to somehow allow Scotland to stay in on current terms, eg: keep the pound, although...

I don't hold much hope that Johnson's personal preference will come through. He's repeatedly shown himself to be happy to switch his view on a whim. My hope is that there are now moves to try and unite a bitterly divided country. The reshuffle could give an indication of that, if there is to be...

Be interesting to see what direction they go in. Certainly some hard choices for them coming up. Mentioned before that recently I've considered not voting, something I've not considered in the past. Just feel like I'm running out of options. If Labour were to go back to the Blair years and...

See Patel has already reappeared, Rees-Mogg won't be far behind.

    General Election 2019 thread

The only thing we can hope is that Johnson tries to bring the country together. We can't continue to be bitterly divided like this. However I fear the margin of victory will see any idea of doing that go out the window in favour of doing whatever they feel like no matter what the collateral...

    General Election 2019 thread

Surprised at the margin of victory to be honest. Know it's only an exit poll but won't be that far out. Fear it's going to be a very difficult few years for a lot of people. Anyone who thinks Johnson is going to stand up to the EU, Trump, Putin etc must be mad, he ran and hid in a fridge to...

Even Johnson hasn't voted for Johnson, he voted in another constituency.

Odd that the Conservative candidate admitted it if it was a plant and not him.

Reports of students in Southampton and Cardiff being turned away despite being registered to vote. Seems legit as both universities have posted on social media to say they have contacted the electoral commission with their concerns.

Happens every time there's a vote. Its just people posting pictures of their dogs at their polling station, nothing more complicated than that.

But thats the point. Its being suggested posters on here will kick off tonight when there is a shock Conservative win. How can there be a shock win when everyone is predicting it?

    More Wasps BS?

I think I'm right in saying they don't have a lease at all on car park c, that still belongs to the council. They were given an option of a lease if they got planning permission to build a hotel approved by November. They didn't and it now seems they might not be building the hotel themselves...

‘Busier than usual' seems to be the consensus on turnout so far. What, if anything, that means for the result is anyones guess. Probably have little to no impact.

They were granted an option to apply for planning for a hotel they were going to build as it was needed for city of culture. It has now been admitted that the hotel won't be ready for city of culture while planning for other hotels in the area, that would be ready in time, has been refused. Now...

    More Wasps BS?

But Wasps don't own the land. The land belongs to the council. What value do Wasps add to earn a cut of money that would otherwise be going to the taxpayer? It would be debatable if it was a good deal for the taxpayer if they were leasing the land off the council and paying to build the hotel...

    General Election 2019 thread

Said early on that the Conservatives biggest problem would be hiding the likes of Johnson and Rees-Mogg. Never for a second did I imagine they would literally hide them away to the point that the PM is on live TV running off to hide in a fridge to avoid answering questions. Even if I had...

    More Wasps BS?

What would the different be in this development compared to the hotel they have just refused planning for next to the Ricoh on the basis it would detract from the city centre. Not the first hotel application the council have rejected on that basis.
