Looking again at that pen shout, I think Cavani fouls the defender. He puts his leg across hoping to be caught, but actually trips the Ghanaian defender. Definitely not a pen.

Agree. Looked a clear dive in real time, but if they had slowed it right down I am sure they could have found that the Ghanaian defender, handled it, then shirt pulled, then spat and finally then kept the ball in even though it was over the line.

How did VAR not pick up on that stamp? They can spend 4 mins on looking to see if a nose hair is just slightly offside, but can't see a clear stamp?

Yup. And the same for scuffing up the penalty spot. VAR could identify that and it should actually be a straight red. That would soon cut it out.
