    Did anyone see Eccles

I think that is a big assumption. There are many reasons he may have reacted that way.

I thought, apart from Bidwell and DaSilva when he came on, we were strong defensively. Not sure Dovin had a shot to save, which says a lot. We just didn't keep the ball well enough or move it quick enough in other areas of the pitch. As has been the case mostly this season, we are so static...

Match Thread Coventry City - Norwich City Match Thread - Saturday 31st Aug

Why don't we press further up the pitch until being behind?! At times there were 3 or 4 players knocking the ball around Simms/Bassette in triangles/ squares. This happens every game. Our tactics are not working. For all the talk of our strength in attack/weakness in midfield, our starting front...

Match Thread Coventry City - Norwich City Match Thread - Saturday 31st Aug

Eccles and Torp have done well. Need a bit more from Rudoni. Simms looks like he has lost any of the confidence he gained last season. Not connecting with any conviction. Van Erwijk has been best player by a mile.

    Summer transfer window 2024

Bugs me this notion of whether a player is 'top 6 material' in order for them to be of value. Top 6 teams don't have a squad full of top 6 players. They do have a system that works; team spirit; a goalscorer; and some luck.

    Transfer deadline incoming and goings

I felt frustrated and disappointed, like most people yesterday, having not secured a couple more signings. However, I hope that general feeling doesn't get directed at the midfield players still here that gives their best whenever they represent the club. Like anyone turning up to work, they...

    league cup draw

I watched the 87 cup final today for the first time in a very long while!! I never realised how immense Trevor Peake's performance was in that game. Has there ever been a better centre-half display by a Cov player? His game stats must have been off the chart.

    Jamie Allen 150

He has his critics but 150 appearances during our most successful period in decades is no mean feat. I think he brings energy and movement when he is in the team. A valuable squad player.

    Oxford cup player ratings

Wilson 6 (nothing to do but was calm and accurate playing out with his feet) Latibeudiere 7 (solid. Being good in the air is a bonus at RB) Thomas 7 (generally defended and covered well. A few loose balls but better than recent) Kitching 7 (same as above) DaSilva 7.5 (great first touch. Didn't...

    Philip Billing

He is obviously a quality player but the few times I saw him play last season I wasn't impressed with his work rate. Maybe that is not representative of how he normally plays but it stood out in those games.

Decent performance. Think Oxford Utd are a very poor side though. A couple of lapses in concentration near the end could have been costly. Need to watch that. I felt our movement in midfield and upfront was much better than recent.

I would have EMC on the left, Bassette right and BTA down the middle.

Very impressed with Bassette. Good pace and his runs off the ball have been brilliant. When Allen is given some time on the ball, he knits things together. He is great at finding pockets of space.

Match Thread Oxford United (H) [LC] 27 Aug 7:45pm KO

Goes to show where we are lacking. We can freshen up our keeper, CBs, LB, AM and front 3. Both Latibeudiere and Eccles should not be considered cover for RB imo. They both played a full game yesterday. If Burroughs had stayed he would be the natural choice. DCM is the other area where we are...

We are so static and predictable at the moment. There was a noticeable difference when the subs came on. Palmer and Mason-Clark are not predictable. I would have also brought on Allen. At least he shows for the ball and gives some energy.

Well, lesson learned - Palmer has to start for Torp with Rudoni playing deeper.
