Match Thread Coventry v Sunderland Championship Playoff 1st Leg Friday 9th May

I wouldn’t write your chances off. Our form was poor towards the end of the season, even though we had all to play for. It didn’t surprise me that Sunderland dipped because you have been cemented in fourth place for a long time. I think that they will rise to the occasion for the playoffs, as...

Match Thread Coventry v Sunderland Championship Playoff 1st Leg Friday 9th May

That’s ridiculous though. I reckon it’s a 50/50 call. If we are at our best we can win but some of our recent performances, particularly against teams in and around the relegation zone, have been poor. We do seem to rise to the occasion against the good teams - of which Sunderland are one - so...

Match Thread Coventry v Sunderland Championship Playoff 1st Leg Friday 9th May

I'm starting to get nervous about Friday already! I think we have a very decent chance of getting to the final but, whatever happens, Frank has given us an exciting end to the season. I certainly didn't expect that at the time of his appointment. 👍

    Our midfield

It's a thought but not having seen him play there it's impossible for me to say, although I have doubts as to whether his aerial crossing would be good enough. I guess he would be more like Haji, cutting inside the box from the wing. Don't get me wrong, I liked him when he played for us but I...

    Our midfield

We have a great midfield for the Championship. Grimes, Rudoni and Sheaf as starters and Torp, Eccles and Allen on the bench. That’s pretty good. If he was still with us, I honestly don’t think Callum O’Hare would get much game time. With everyone fit it is entirely conceivable that he wouldn’t...

We would have been better off with Robins

I was one of those who was in the “Give Robins more time to turn it around” camp. He was a great manager for us and I truly believe he saved our club. One thing I never understood though was the opposition from a lot of fans to Lampard’s appointment. It seemed to me that the only sensible...

Match Thread Coventry v Sunderland Championship Playoff 1st Leg Friday 9th May

I think we will win on Friday. The away leg is going to be tricky, so I would like a two goal advantage to take to their place. I’m going for 2-0 to us at home and either a 1-0 defeat or 1-1 away. That will do nicely 🙂

    Clive Eakin on CWR

I will really miss him. Football’s answer to Murray Walker! I can only hope he’s going to Sky F1. Him and Martin Brundle would be the dream team. I can hear him now, just as Norris laps Verstappen, saying “Norris in real danger from Senna now”. 🙂 The guy’s a legend.

    Jack rudoni

Rudoni is a great player at Championship level.

It was nice to see. He clearly has pace and talent but - rather like Kasey Palmer - he needs to improve his consistency. If he can do that he will be a very valuable player for us.

I have just heard one bit of good news. Our play-off final match against Sheffield United or Bristol City is to be held at our other home ground 👍

I agree. Collins does distribute the ball better but the key task of a goalkeeper is to keep the ball out of the net and on that count Wilson is far superior.

I thought Saka was immense today. Back to his old self with his ball control, crossing and general trickery. He also worked hard defensively when he tracked back. Without that I don’t think we could have allowed MVE to take throw-ins far upfield on the left.

Match Thread Coventry City - Middlesbrough Match Thread - Saturday 3rd May

To think that, a few months ago, many folk on this forum wanted Ruud van Nistelrooy as our manager rather than FL 😆 I must also confess that I was in the “give Mark Robins more time” camp because I loved him for all that he did in turning our club around. To be honest I always will but looking...
