So Labour’s commitment is to match the Tories 300k target - which is not a new policy and still roughly 215k per annum (or 1.075m) short of houses we need. Jacinda Aldern in NZ promised big things on housing in NZ and failed to deliver. I hope our Labour government does better - reforming the...

Then surely you’ve weighed up the advantages and disadvantages or each form of funding? The government is battling with multiple spending priorities. We need more school, houses, hospitals, prisons and all the staff and equipment that is required with that. This is without considering roads...

I haven’t looked at the details but SFE payments per month is roughly similar to my NI payments. So quite a hit on a monthly basis and iirc, it’s only servicing the debt. That and housing are two policy priorities for me. The tories aren’t interested in taking on the NIMBYs and tuitions fees...

I wouldn’t describe my views as centre-left but there are some specific policies that could swing my vote to Labour. Especially around plans to forgive student finance - a purely selfish policy priority I’ll admit.

It’s not good for democracy imo. Even in 2019 I felt Labour getting trounced as they did wasn’t good. Instinctively, I think governments with big majorities tend to squander their time in government.

    Transfer Rumour Marko Stamenic

You’re right. The money we’ve spent on the players we will double or even triple our money if we manage things right. We’re not in control of these events, if we have to let a player or two go to bring in the 8 or so player we need, then it’s a trade we need to make.

Use of PFI, at the time, was to alleviate the burden of government actually funding projects. The government doesn’t have the cash it’ll borrow from the bond markets and so on. PFI transfers the risk to the private sector and alleviates the need for government to raise capital. That was the...

I’m sorry Fern, but first those two sentences contradict one another. We agree that PFI has been a failure, that isn’t the point. It’s the rationale behind the policy is because the traditional funding method is expensive and doesn’t look good on the country’s balance sheet.

That’s a rather naive point of view. A lot of the issues in the NHS today stem from PFI which was introduced by Blair. This was a policy designed to make the running of the NHS more sustainable. Again, as far back as the last Labour government, the sustainability of the system was a concern. The...

    Summer transfer window 2024

Agreed, the club should act in good faith and let him go for a reasonable price. Additionally, we need to be more forward thinking and get a player who’s capable of impacting games from the bench if Wright and Simms are the starters. Godden was rarely able to impact the game from the bench and...

I for one, agree. One of my first posts on this topic said that there’s a lot of pressure on Labour to fix the NHS in the next 1-2 parliaments before there’s a serious national conversation on how fund healthcare. There’s an assumption that Labour will come in and just like that, it’ll be...

You’re right because he’s not going to in Government or Opposition come July 5th. UKIP, Farage specifically, got the Brexit debate into the mainstream as all the mainstream parties were predominantly Remainer parties pre-2016. It’s almost the job of fringe parties to pull Labour or Tory to the...

Do you trust Kier Starmer when he said he wouldn’t send a family member to a private hospital who was on a NHS waiting list and in need of surgery? His answer was revealing.

Do you want to discuss boring politics?

Why do you have to make things so personal? Not every leader of a political party adopts all of their personal opinions as party policy - they have an election to win. As for Farage, he’s not going to be in government so has the freedom to say things without needing to implement anything.

    England v Iceland

I’m just hoping that Shaw is fit and raring to go by the KO rounds. Trippier is a good fullback, but his need to put it on his right foot is killing some of our attacking patterns. Is there a reason Chilwell was not in the 26? I’m not going to panic over a low stakes friendly, win the group...

There’s a difference between your personal views and what you get elected to do. Thatcher admitted she wanted to introduce charges for hospital stays and GP visits but didn’t introduce it because she campaigned specifically not to do.

I read and understand that but it’s typical paranoia around the subject that is blocking rational debate on healthcare reform. Every time there’s a reform, from New Labour (and probably before) to date, it’s ‘privatisation by stealth’ whenever the solution is not just giving more money. It’s...
