    O'Hare bids

Being less supported (apparently) than Burnley - a small town of some 70k with "Bastard Rovers" just down the road.

We're the 10th biggest city in the country - Burnley can only dream of our fan base

Match Thread ⚽️ Sunderland vs Coventry City Match Thread - Sunday 31st Jul

Must win game already, at least mustn't lose - it will likely set the tone for the early part of the season. They'll be a tough test, rested and at full strength. I'd take a draw at that hell hole but 0-3 would be so much better :)

    Todd Kane

The problem with saying this player or that player can go is about who will come in. The squad was threadbare last season, We relied heavily on Kane and when fit he was unplayable at times, much more useful that Dabs a lot of the time as it turned out. We collapsed in the league from 2nd to...

    O'Hare bids

That's the sad truth of it. Fantastic news for now but it's probably not so good for the club that there hasn't been stronger interest in our top players - so far.

    O'Hare bids

Why isn't Palmer reinvestment - does he not count or is it because we've already got him? We've got 2 defenders for JCS, somebody to come for Maatsen. We've lost Jones and Shippers, which might give him a little bit to play with but we've 'gained' Tyler back so that's some of his salary too.

    O'Hare bids

Certainly! The wage budget won't be higher than last season and Robins, rightly, wants a bigger squad. That means more nippers and slightly less experience

    O'Hare bids

I think Palmer will be on a decent wage - especially coming on a free

    O'Hare bids

I hope so but let's see. Maybe the equation changed when Tyler reported back. I'm guessing that he (Tyler) might play on the left later in games as in the Forest match...

    O'Hare bids

I think he's possibly already got Palmer.

    O'Hare bids

It's not the fees that matter particularly, it's the overall wage bill and the size of the squad. Fees either way are usually pretty marginal I would think in the normal course of events. If we want to reduce the losses then we have to sell a player or two for a good profit (we've done no...

    Palmer probably is CoH's replacement.

    Transfer Shouts

It's win-win for the owners any losses belong to the club any profit for them. They'll be more than happy to extract interest on the notional debt as that is all income on their books whereas in reality these are historic debts are losses that belong to the owners that should have been written...

    Transfer Shouts

Yes. The club had already shown that it had little ambition to compete at the top end of the first division by then (with the Mortimer sale). They seemed to be quite wealthy by the late 70s with a serious bid for Trevor Francis from the Bennies but then, as you say, top players left Ian Wallace...

    As it stands

At home he'll start two up top a lot of the time but away and against some of the stronger teams it'll likely be the box midfield. It's pretty clear then that he wants to play Palmer and O'Hare together, the rest of the time Palmer will be likely cover and a sub when cal has missed his 10th...
