My guess at the delay in the announcement is possibly down to waiting on a work permit, as he’s a US citizen. If the home office work at their normal pace it’ll be 2025 by the time he’s available 😉

There is significant risk on Gus's part then. He's one ACL away from unemployment in 2024.

If Gus decides to run his contract down, then he’s risking unemployment if he gets a serious injury. The club are not in a strong position to force a move within the UK and I very much doubt MR will leave him out the team.

There has probably been contact to his agent from another club, who have then offered a low bid to the club. Unethical business

That quote sounded as though MR is acting to seek a compromise agreement between Doug [who is sticking to a strict wage structure] and Gus & agent [give us the money we think he's worth]. Meanwhile, no club has bid £15m, while hoping to get him on the cheap.

If Gus was sold to Brighton for say....£15m, then by this time next year Chelsea will be buying him for £70m. Best make sure we've got a significant sell on deal. ;)
