Match Thread Stoke away 10th August 12:30 - Opening day!

Only good thing about the League Cup is giving a run out to squad players. The league cup provides next to nothing in terms of TV and ticket revenues, unless you draw one of the big 6 or make it to the semi final. FA cup is a different matter though and is always a competition we should aim to...

Match Thread Stoke away 10th August 12:30 - Opening day!

Any draw in the first round of the league cup is likely to be 'shitty'. I hope as per usual MR swaps the team around to give the squad players some minutes. Hopefully this year they will still be good to get through, but if not its no real big deal as its a pretty meaningless competition these...

    Sheaf

You've picked out one instance in a game where there's every chance that particular decision was made by the players on the pitch. That season Middlesbrough scored 84 league goals as opposed to our 58. Only runaway champions, Burnley, scored more with 87. Those stats don't indicate he manages...

    Sheaf

Not sure that's true. They were scoring goals for fun in the Championship before their play off against us. Carrick was then simply tactically outmanoeuvered by MR. Outside of the parachute payment beneficiaries I think Middlesbrough will be our biggest rivals for promotion this season.

Why haven't you mentioned this before?

Match Thread SV Darmstadt v Coventry

It never ceases to amaze me the importance with which some supporters put on pre season results even though history tells us they are no indication of the prospects for the season ahead.

    Pre season to Germany

One of saddlebrains poorest ITK moments was this time last pre-season when he said that MVE was a devisive unpopular figure. Remember thinking at the time that such gossip was malicious and served no useful purpose.

    Callum O'Hare

I'm very enthused about our signing Rudoni, but I don't think there was room in the team for him and O'Hare, so the time appears to have been right for O'Hare to leave, given we hope to have signed a better and younger prospect. It's also a shame we couldn't of got a transfer fee for him, but...

    Ex Player Watch

Probably the fastest player I've ever seen play for us (including John Williams), but shame the rest of his game wasn't up to standard. Interesting guy though.

    RUDONI

He looks to have a really good touch, and also seems to have a few tricks up his sleeve. Hopefully playing in a better team will bring the best out of him.

when was the darkest era for the club?

Ironically that game was probably one our better performances, although of course that is judged against a very low benchmark. Wasn't that also the game where that little 15 year old jumped the barrier to knock a cocky Sheff U fan on his arse?

    Callum O'Hare

Not sure that's right in either case. 'Utter dross' is very strong terminology - there were far worse players that played for us in that period. He was also not helped by his managers choosing to play him on the wing, which he was clearly not suited to, rather than up front where his goals...

    Summer transfer window 2024

If we were in fact in for Stamenic, there must be a chance that it was with a view to selling on and replacing Sheaf, which if so would make redundant the view some have on here that the money set aside for signing Stamenic is still burning a hole in MR's pocket.

    What do we still need?

To my mind the only position we definitely need another player to fill out the squad is up front, but whoever that is will likely start as back up to the existing players we have in Wright and Simms so we have to be realistic in who might want to sign for us in those circumstances. I have long...

Match Thread Getafe Vs Coventry City 19/07 18:00

Although there is an obvious risk of injury from playing such teams, its not a bad way to build team spirit, so from that angle it was good to see that we stood up well to their bullying style.

    What do we still need?

Another problem with spending another £6-11m is that any players commanding such sums will also expect a significant salary. This never seems to be factored into the sums of posters (well one in particular) when speculating on the cost to the club of signing such players to sit on the bench...

    Josh Eccles

You keep harping on about speculation like it has some kind of value, but speculation is all it is with no actual worth. Just internet bollocks from attention seekers on the whole, occasionally fuelled by an agent. It means nothing. By definition, in playing for his hometown club Eccles is...

If we were to sell Eccles there would be plenty of interest, including from other top end Championship clubs.

    Transfer Rumour Oliver Dovin

I agree with this. McFadzean was absolutely crucial too us during that period, and the period where the defence struggled most that season was when he was injured. Although the current defence still have to step up a bit, they were much better coping without Fadz. As such I'm hoping all of...
