Match Thread Rotherham United FC - Coventry City Match Thread - Wednesday 25th Oct

They can’t have been off guard, Hamer was going as soon as a suitable fee was agreed, he played in the first couple of games. I believe Swift was the the favoured replacement but for some reason didn’t happen.

Bit of a water shed moment been here before, our division one promotion season the 4-0 drubbing ironically also at Rotherham Robins changed tact, it worked and last season when we had that poor run xmas time. He needs to look at the squad and pick his best players and in their best positions...

    Recruitment has been shocking

Gyokeres was going whatever, Doug King held out for the best possible offer which was apparently £25million and a large sell on fee. He did brilliant imo.

    Recruitment has been shocking

But loans are gambles, Binks looks okay, Ayari not so at the moment, I agree with trying to get loans in January but they wouldn’t be cheap and still a gamble. Villa loaned in Abrahams whose goals won them promotion and look at them now, his wages though were very high, the gamble worked for them.

    Recruitment has been shocking

What would you call quality loans ? If you loan decent prem players and not kids you would be looking at weekly wages of £50k+ if you try to to buy the same it would be millions in a fee and three/four year contracts on a minimum two/three million a year. It’s a bit of a minefield.

    Nowhere near good enough

I blame the recruitment team for that.

    The Brentford/Brighton model

I suspect the £7.5million is the maximum we could pay eventually same with the Simms transfer fee. It’s frustrating things haven’t come off as we hoped yet but still time I hope.

Technically he is very good, bit on the light side though. Needs to bulk up imo.

    Bill Kenwright RIP

I think he’s kept the wolf from the Everton door for a while.

And points wise we are better off than after 12 games last season.

    The Brentford/Brighton model

What I’m saying the players we bought this season are for top end championship wether they will be good enough for lower end premiership if we get there we will have to see some might be doubt they all will. So they will probably move on. Look what Forest did last season, replaced virtually...

    The Brentford/Brighton model

But we are shopping for the championship if we get promotion to the Premiership chances are we will be in the market for a whole load of new players again and it’s a totally different market.

    The Brentford/Brighton model

Well by my reckoning we have signed eleven players since January how many of them are better than what we had ?

    The Brentford/Brighton model

I don’t think we had a scouting system anything like what’s being developed now, but that doesn’t really bother me it’s these suggestions that getting rid of Dean Austin will make things better, I take it you agree we should, correct ?

    The Brentford/Brighton model

Mr Bloom is certainly a canny guy, just how much Brighton FC get from these mega deals we’ll never know.

    The Brentford/Brighton model

Brighton buy develop and then sell on, they sell big every year. Brentford are a bit different at the moment they don’t have an academy but they hoover up rejects including one from Cov. Talk of them re-starting an academy though.
