    Ellis simms

We're 4th as Norwich have scored 67 but you made me look at the table and realise how bad our defence has been. Most conceded in the top 6 by a decent wedge Needs sorting big time in the summer

    Mowbray sacked

I don't think they have a top 6 squad at all. They were in the top 6 solely due to Corberan being the best manager in the league until poached There was always going to be a regression and they'll need to rebuild in the summer Mowbray probably would do alright next year with a full pre-season...

    Ellis simms

Think we should be OK to move a few on as they won't be happy with their game time (Lati, Bidwell, BTA) We don't seem to have a group of players who are happy to sit on their contract on the bench as most are either at or approaching their prime For Simms it would take out of the blue interest...

    Ellis simms

I don't know if tactically it is that similar despite being the same formation. We had less possession last season & allowed teams to come onto us more allowing Wright/Simms space on the counter. Some games were almost like basketball matches Now we have a higher-line and compress the pitch a...

    Ellis simms

Weird player to dig out after yesterday - was not in the top 5 worst players Simms scored a few when we played to his strengths in the 5-3-2 - balls down the channels, lots of crosses, quicker build up, second striker to help him press He's not a striker for the system Lampard ideally wants to...

Match Thread Luton Town - Coventry City Match Thread - Saturday 26th Apr

Gonna sound like a broken record by the end of the week but we need to move to a back 3 here. Mentioned it on another thread but Sheff U were getting dominated by Luton with a back 4, switched to a back 3 at half-time and won the game: Match report

    2 games to go

This is a weak year as Luton fucked it. How often do a parachute payment team finish in the bottom-half? Also no promoted team will finish in the top half this season. Would be surprised if that happened again next year with Blues & Wrexham coming up

    2 games to go

All 4 of those played against Derby didn't they? Basically he same thing happened It is tactical rather than personnel

Match Thread Plymouth Argyle - Coventry City Match Thread - Monday 21st Apr

He adapted to start the winning run earlier in the season - he isn’t utterly wedded to 4-3-3 (although it took zero wingers) Surely he can see the ineffectiveness of the formation away from home

    5 at the back?

Earlier this season when Luton played Sheff U at home - Sheff U started with a back 4 and Luton were absolutely hammering them but couldn’t score At HT Wilder changed it and matched their formation (3-5-2) and they dominated the second half and won the game Frank needs to adapt similarly

Match Thread Plymouth Argyle - Coventry City Match Thread - Monday 21st Apr

If Frank can adapt I still give us a fighting chance of going up If we try to do the current system better I don’t see us going further than the semi-final - we simply haven’t got the players yet

    5 at the back?

Put it in the match thread but we won games during our winning run with both/either Lati & Binks in a 3 Think I prefer it to Lati in a 4 Agree we need Thomas back though

Match Thread Plymouth Argyle - Coventry City Match Thread - Monday 21st Apr

Neither are as bad in a 3. During our winning run: Binks played in wins against Bristol, Blackburn and QPR Lati played in wins against Bristol, Blackburn, Watford, Swansea, Sheff Wed Obviously you’d hope Thomas could come back in if at all possible but it’s certainly better than either of...

Match Thread Plymouth Argyle - Coventry City Match Thread - Monday 21st Apr

I can’t think of a reason not to play 4-3-3 at home and 5-3-2 away from home Saka is basically pointless away from home and him for a CB would be the only change we’d need to make

Match Thread Plymouth Argyle - Coventry City Match Thread - Monday 21st Apr

We knew this though Frank will lament us not executing the system well enough but he could’ve adapted today - let’s hope he does against Luton as it will be very similar

Match Thread Plymouth Argyle - Coventry City Match Thread - Monday 21st Apr

We’ve got two away games left (if we finish in the play offs) I’d rather we stink the place out in a 5-3-2 than try to control the game in a 4-3-3 If we start with a 4 against Luton we might as well all back Luton to score 1.5+ and all make some money
  17. H

    5 at the back?

Today will be a blessing if Frank realises we’re fucked playing a 4 away from home - no point getting to the play offs as we’ll crumble in the away leg with how we’re playing 5-3-2 against Luton, stay solid, hit the channels, match their battle

Match Thread Plymouth Argyle - Coventry City Match Thread - Monday 21st Apr

Said it for a while we need to go to a back 5 away from home and make it more of a battle - that is how we kept winning away from home during our amazing run
