The top consideration for bringing in any permanent signing in January should be whether they could feasibly be part of a PL squad next season. If they can’t, we shouldn’t be signing them.

The more likely outcome is that Grimes stays fit through the season and keeps doing what he’s doing. We don’t need to spend money on a backup now who likely won’t be a viable option in the PL next season.

There is no feasible ticket price that could properly sustain that kind of transfer activity. It’s not the fans’ fault that the economics of English football don’t make sense, and frankly we should stop pretending that fans at this level are responsible for funding the club.

Allen has started three games this season. We simply don’t have the need for an expensive replacement who’s only really adding value that infrequently.

We have loads of capable CMs in case we get an injury (and we’ve already had many). If we get in a PL-calibre CM even on loan then they will expect to play every week - we’re not dropping Grimes, so does Torp get benched? I just don’t see it.
