For me it's coming through our academy. It's fantastic for the lad, he must be buzzing tonight after making his debut in such a comprehensive victory. Having Howley and Eccles in the same starting line up is a great example to others in our academy of what can be achieved here.

That might explain it. He's been piss poor this season before today. Tbf he's played before he's had time to recover from injuries, but there's no denying that he's been disappointing. I'm not convinced that MR will keep him around after this season, so he needs to impress and keep his place.

He did well today when he came on, and his goal (albeit a tap in) will do him the world of good. He needed to get on the score sheet to help him get a club for next season as I can't see him being offered a new contract here.

That's the risk he takes, I doubt his form will suffer, if anything he's still improving, and his value may well increase. He'd be crazy not to take advantage of the Bosman rule, on a free transfer he could demand a huge signing on fee and £100k+ a week.
