Northampton Town (FA Cup) Match Thread

Going to be strange tomorrow. Either went to games with my Dad or - if he wasn't up to it - rang him on the way home to tell him about the game. He passed away yesterday. Saw his first City game in 1933, so he saw a few ups and downs.

    Walsall and Burton Games Postponed

I believe that Kent is out, but Armstrong is OK.

    New Ricoh deal?

Odd how perspectives can vary. I think that he comes across as remarkably polite and restrained.

    Youth cup

I remember Bobby Parker. Captained the England youth team IIRC. Was talked about as "the new Bobby Moore". Decent player, but as you say, it never quite happened for him.

    Joe cole signing

Was that the home game that was our first after relegation - the week after we won at Stockport? If so, I'm not sure it supports the point it was intended to, as that was a capacity crowd at Highfield Road as I recall.

    Peterborough (Home) Match Thread

He let a lot go. In the first half their left back was constantly and blatantly blocking Lamieras off the ball. This was right in front of the Linesman. How he kept getting away with it.......?????

Agree entirely. Their keeper would not have been booked yesterday without the barracking he (and the ref) was getting for his time wasting. It shouldn't make a difference - but it does!

I could understand that. I am too.

    Pressley

On a serious note, I thought he seemed a good guy and I got the impression that he thinks quite deeply about the game. However, my biggest concern would be around his man management. I know we only get part stories but it didn't appear to be a "happy camp" last year and the whole "banish them"...

    Stick or twist?

You know the old comment about - "you can tell a Ref's had a good game when you don't notice him". To me, this applies to Ricketts. Nothing spectacular, but just keeps on doing an excellent job with no fuss. He's been a brilliant signing for us in my opinion.

    Stick or twist?

Hopefully so. As I said earlier, I just thought I picked up a slightly different tone from TM in yesterday's interview.

    Pressley

I've been critical of Pressley on occasion, but I'd never suggest that he was that poor.

    Stick or twist?

You could indeed - I'm a bit more concerned that if say Ricketts and Martin pick up injuries, we'll be left with youngsters and/or midfielders in central defence and then the top 8 might seem a distant dream. To be clear - this wasn't a general point about investing "cos things are going...

    Stick or twist?

Generally I'd be of the same view. However we do seem to have a chance to arrest our long decline and having caught the end of TM's interview last night, I got the impression - possibly wrongly as I came in part way through - that he was making a bit of a plea for help in getting in defensive...

    Stick or twist?

From what we are told, SISU are currently running the club on a cash neutral basis. I have no problem with that, we can't expect any owners to go on supporting losses indefinitely. I can also completely accept that the "speculate to accumulate " argument is generally not an enticing one, when...

Just wondering if you saw any games last season?

    This time 5 years ago

That's not quite how I remember it. After a good start under Bothroyd we totally imploded. As I recall, Crystal Palace - who were having a really rubbish season - were the only team we beat in something like 4 months. If Bothroyd had stayed, any points we'd got from that time would have been a...

    Memories From '87

The Charity Shield was the first "official" game he played in. he'd played in friendlies before that. The first time I saw him play for us was in a friendly at Hereford.

Best 11...just kidding - Legal stuff this time...

I'm getting quite excited now, as it's almost two and a half years since Tim told us that the new stadium would be ready in three. Not many sleeps left.......

    Memories From '87

Bolton - I remember it being bloody cold. Frozen pitch and a fairly easy win. It snowed on the drive back home (Bristol in those days). Man Utd - Houchen scoring right in front of me and the second half being a continuous chant of "George & John's Sky Blue Army". Stoke - Rang up to get my...
