You said no economic growth resulted in everyone getting poorer, thereby implying economic growth resulted in everyone getting richer. I've showed that isn't necessarily the case. You can have a situation where you could have an overall economic retraction but most people becoming richer...

Trump is my favourite comedian of the year already

It's why I don't understand why, when they did the system they decided it was a good idea that alongside groups for the judiciary and the legislative, they decided that the executive should be controlled by an individual. And what's more that individual would have a say in appointments of things...

I was amazed at the massive jump over the past few days and wondered how they managed that in so short a space of time, and also why on earth it took so long. Then it seems like always they've spun the figures and they've just sent loads of tests out and counting them in the figures.

So if a small percentage of people with a lot of wealth get 10% growth and everyone else gets negative 2% growth, but overall this would result in 3% economic growth, have we all got richer?

Trump is my favourite comedian of the year already

Apart from the obvious not wanting a nutcase in charge I want Trump to lose because of the epic meltdown that would follow. The conspiracy theories he'd come out with would be absolutely hilarious. Probably claim 50m illegal immigrants voted. But with the way 2020 has gone I expect his...

Why? Economy has grown here, people can afford less. Got more people using foodbanks etc than ever before. Current generation is expected to be worse off than their parents but we've had an incredible amount of economic growth over that period. Plus economy can grow but health/wellbeing gets...

Quite possibly. That's the thing with managers - they can end up moving and the compensation packages are far less luctrative than players. If you've got a good manager I'd do my best to get him with a huge release fee on it. A good manager is worth loads more than a good player and far, far rarer.

I agree with you overall - some economic growth is probably necessary but it should be one factor of many. But it doesn't necessarily mean that if we don't see economic growth we get poorer. If everything continues to cost the same then growth isn't needed - we just need to change what we spend...

I read it and it said an improved contract but didn't set out the length. I'm sure before that he was on a rolling deal. So when he got that contract I got the impression it was more about him getting more money rather than him being tied down. Happy to be proven wrong.

Yes. Very common method of payment with the 'company'.

I agree on the national funding bit. It is a minefield because if you have the two services politically they'll be played off against each other - care saying people need to be in hospital and vice versa to change who has them on their budget. But the two are individually such massive sectors...

But at no point did the science say herd mentality was a good idea - that was an ideological idea that was tried to be pushed on them to agree to. We lost a lot of time for that. Neither have they ever said PPE was useless. Again that was political spin because we'd not stockpiled enough even...

What this has shown is that the way we structure economics it cannot adapt to change. This makes it a very vulnerable system and we need to take a massive look at this. The first step is to get rid of the utter obsession with economic growth.

We've got a parliament that couldn't sort out a Withdrawal Agreement for three years and they expect teachers to completely revolutionise their method of teaching (often without having the technical knowledge of how to do it) in a few days. Whilst also continuing to have to do the traditional...

I agree it should be under the same sort of control as the NHS, but it's so big in itself and only going to grow it should have a degree of separation (but obviously with very close working relationships). We could have the NCS (National Care Service)
