Maybe not, but it brings into focus the discrepancy between how much footballers are paid and average people by doing a direct comparison. Let's say someone like Hickman was on say £40-50k a year, it seems like a lot for what is the equivalent of the office junior . Say he's on £800-900 per week...

As I said it's the increase in channels/providers creating a bidding war and different services like streaming creating new packages for them to flog that are keeping the prices high. In terms of people actually watching it's saturated - everyone who wants to watch football is watching football...

Match Thread Watford vs. Coventry City Match Thread - Tuesday 27th Aug

There's the VAR Bar at the stadium. They use the security cameras to check who's next to be served - make sure no-one's gained an unfair advantage pushing in front of the last man.

    Watford v Oxford

What about the second half? It'd be even more demoralising as they'd almost certainly play a much weakened team and even with their reserves and kids playing we'd take a battering.

While I'm on my soapbox yet again, I think it's about time we stopped taking footballers salaries in terms of £x per week. Obviously tens or even hundreds of thousands a week are still massive amounts, but it doesn't seem as much as it actually is. Let's talk footballer salaries like most normal...

That's the problem though isn't it. IMO the sensible thing to do is to bank a fair proportion of that money for the future and not take on massive financial risks and commitments, but relegation is pretty much assured within a season or two and then the fans and pundits are saying "they didn't...

I'm saying that it seems that people now seem to have got as much footy as they want or have time to watch. It's only anecdotal but there seems to be a lot more people who're deciding to get rid of their Sky Sports packages. The rights packages are more spread out between providers than before...

The EU: In, out, shake it all about....

To be fair the US does enforce a base standard - it just happens to be lower than ours (and ours is hardly amazing). They'd rather spend trillions of fancy weapons and surveillance systems because they're cool, so make a massive thing about a very small number of extremists. Food standards and...

People said the same when the PL came along - it can be changed if the will is there. As I've said before I'm not for salary caps on individuals, and I only think a team salary cap should be related to the income you make. So many teams that get relegated rely on those parachute payments to...

    England cricket 2019

Maybe you've misunderstood me. I didn't mean the ENTIRE line up was one day specialists. Burns, Denly and Root aren', but given how quickly they're getting outt. But apart from that it is heavily limited overs weighted. Roy, Buttler, Bairstow and Stokes all have games that are more favoured to...

Should CCFC get on board with this?

Not sure about them being free unless on certain benefits, although I wouldn't be against a proposal to help someone with basic decency and hygiene. You'd be horrified if loo paper, soap and hand drying facilities weren't provided. It's more how would you stop someone abusing it and just nicking...

    England cricket 2019

Explain. What part of that is untrue? The Aussie bowling is, on the whole, disciplined. Our batters primarily favour limited overs and are used to trying to score of every ball. Just because we had a day or two where the batsmen concentrated and played more conservative cricket (except at the...

The EU: In, out, shake it all about....

I wasn't just talking about chlorinated chicken (I believe the EU allow chlorine washes of vegetables) and we do have some poor quality processed food out there. In general US foods seem to have more additives, preservatives, salt etc. Our food producers would almost be forced into following...

On the whole I agree that if a business cannot make enough money or produce its product/service at a low enough cost is should be left to go out of existence. Difference with this is that they're part of the fabric of a community as well as businesses and drivers of the local economy and job...

    England cricket 2019

It's the fact their bowling is, on the whole, very disciplined. It puts the pressure on and they don't let you have much at all. With our one-day batting lineup they're used to scoring quickly, patience isn't their virtue and as we've seen before too long they'll be swinging at stuff.
