I'm right on the cusp of X and Y. I feel I've got more in common with the X than Millennials though. Never quite sure about them though because the difference between the beginning and end can be stark. Millennials for example are born through the Tory govt of the 80's and those born early on...

    North or South ?

Warwickshire. West Mids I think for most is seen as Birmingham. Been plenty of noise from people wanting the region renamed Greater Birmingham because they have this one-upmanship with Manchester over who's bigger. West Mids from Wolverhampton to Birmingham is pretty much one large urban area...

    North or South ?

With the Midlands if they're going to set it here it's going to be Birmingham, like Peaky Blinders. Up north it's almost certainly going to be Manchester, Liverpool or maybe Newcastle. The Nativity movies were done in Coventry because the author was local but again I don't know if they were...

    Gnabry.

When Arsenal signed him I'd only really seen him play for Germany and felt he was a good player, but the reports on him were that he had tons of ability but the heart of a mouse. When the going got tough he would hide and at times you may as well play with ten men. From what I've seen of him...

I remember once when we had our half time drink and there was no orange squash, just apple or blackcurrant. What a kerfuffle.

We didn't have our landline put in until about 1988, and even then no-one was allowed to use it apart from an emergency. I remember using phone boxes and the smell very well. Wasn't allowed to use the home phone to call friends until the mid-90's and even then only briefly.

What's untrue? I didn't say loads of people went to higher education. I said it was free, had grants and you could sign on as unemployed to those smart/lucky enough to be able to do so. So much of the uni intake when it was free came from the private schools who could have afforded to pay for...

This I agree with. Unfortunately in this age it has come to a point where even if you want to go without it it's virtually impossible if you want to have a chance with anything. I know i should turn the laptop off more often but I turn it on cos I need to do stuff on it and end up coming on here...

But nowadays a package holiday abroad is often cheaper than the equivalent time spent here. And despite the expense my grandparents did go to Spain every few years. My last trip abroad was over 10 years ago. My last proper holiday of any kind was 6 years ago on the South coast for four days with...

Well if you could afford to go out why didn't you just not go out and use that money to get the more important things you didn't have instead of wasting it? That's your equivalent of a Costa coffee and a pizza. You're just refusing to acknowledge it as such. So they could afford the phone box...

I'm mainly talking about my grandparents generation, who would've been young during the war. As has been said quite a few times and ignored by you is that we're not saying they had it EASY. It's they had it EASIER. Of course there were times it was tough for them early on in life with the war...

But I thought there was no money available for treats? Just like someone now deciding to order a takeaway or go out for a coffee whereas before they'd go for a beer at the pub. Smoking was commonplace. Mobile phones are pretty much a necessity nowadays. Whether some people need an...

I see you didn't mention about the job security, well paid low-skilled work, free education and grants. So they were renting a TV as a luxury item. Just like people having netflix/Sky now. If people were working all hours god sends to keep a roof over their head why bother renting a TV? Surely...

    Injury thread 2020-2021

Indeed. The papers etc doing previews of games Sat morning and the amount of times you'd see "Coventry have a fully-fit squad to chose from" yet you knew we had about half a dozen out injured and a fair few carrying knocks but playing. And that was from journalists whose job it was to find this...

    Ex Player Watch

A savvy player would eventually realise that with no end product the need to cover Kent wasn't as pressing as appeared and so over time his ability to 'drag defenders out of position' would decrease. The defender would be more willing to let him go a bit because the chance of him actually doing...

    Match Thread Mk Dons preseason

Could happen, but doesn't solve the problem at right back. Someone will be playing out of position. So far we've seen Burroughs, Pask and Thompson out on the right and I don't think any of them I'd be comfortable with against Championship opposition. Not really like we've got a right midfield...

Again assuming that all older people made the calculations on affordability and no younger people do. It's lazy assumptions. Why did those people rent a TV/wireless/white goods in the 50's/60's? They were unnecessary luxuries. What about those people in the 50's/60's that were the 'Carnaby St'...
