I'm not convinced they were trying to portray him in a more positive light, the tabloid press often seem to have a bit of a fetish for building up a person's descent into crime/darkness. I am guessing it sells more papers, gossipmongering essentially, the 'what went wrong' story arc.

Looks like a fair bit of international pressure is being belatedly applied to Israel, lets hope it is seen through and actually achieves something as the situation sounds beyond atrocious at present.
