    Wright and Simms

Wright has looked good all year for me. Simms looks a real confidence player. Will probably score streaks of goals. But they’re both physical and every opposition will know they’ve been in a game. Palmer has also been much improved last few games.

    Ratings v Wolves

We were superb through the core. Thomas, Kitching, Sheaf, Simms.

    Mark Robins

One of the very best we’ve had. System was great today

    Embarrassing from O’Neil

    Dennis Lawrence

Just looks like a good opportunity for him with little else to it. I think they went to open advert last time which is rare nowadays

    Callum O’hare

To be fair if we got promoted we’d be looking at better players. I’ve seen nothing from O’Hare to suggest he’s a premiership player.

Match Thread Watford FC - Coventry City Match Thread - Saturday 9th Mar

That’s a great win. Reading this thread back it’s unbelievable. Watching live I struggle to see what those posters moaning early on were watching! Knee jerk is never the way to go.

    Dennis Lawrence

    I don’t remember him scoring.

    Kelly must start every game

He’s been good but you do have the recognise that Maidstone and Rotherham allowed him endless time on the ball.

    Rotherham ratings

Got to be 8’s all round for a 5-0. Lesser discussed highlights for me were Kitching’s distribution, the amount of ground Bidwell covered and actually scoring from a set piece. Rotherham were quite possibly the worst side I’ve ever seen.

    Simms and Wright .....

Crikey, Simms must think this is a tough school. Two hat tricks in just over a week and he’s being criticised…………….although his first touch back to goal is shit.

Match Thread Coventry City - Rotherham United FC Match Thread - Tuesday 5th Mar

What a truly bizarre half of football. I don’t think I’ve ever seen a team as poor as Rotherham.

What would our survival odds be if we went up?

I think it becomes strategic. Use the money to buy 2-3 top championship level players. Take the parachute payment and invest again. Then try and repeat until you can assemble a squad to one day consolidate. It’s quite a long process but less risky than just going for it.

    Just a thought

It’s a good point. I’ve really enjoyed the last two seasons and think we’ve done unbelievably well. Back at a decent level of football and up amongst it. With the scenarios we’ve faced it’s a minor miracle. We’ve gone from being loan based to building a squad. For years spending money on...

Should Ohare now be back up for Palmer

Losing O’Hare is not a disaster. He doesn’t impact games enough a lot of the time. Palmer is an interesting one. Undoubted ability and looks good on the ball but 9 times out of 10 has no end product or makes the wrong decisions. For me he’s best impacting from the bench.

Who is good enough next season?

If you assume those rumoured to be leaving do I think we need a proper first choice 9 as priority. Simms as squad depth. Next priority is a left back to ensure we don’t rely on Dasilva. I’d then try for two midfielders. One akin to O’Hare and one more like Kelly. If there’s anything left some...

    Transfer Rumour Ellis Simms

Simms has got some good goals and looked better recently. But it’s beyond argument that he needs a lot of work still. His first touch is absolutely terrible as is his link play. People rightly say he’s better with the ball in front of him - correct. But as a 9 he has to be able to hold it up. Up...

Can someone fucking explain to me...

I quite like the insights and hope they carry on. If you’re West Brom or any other team you’ve decided on your team days before matchday. Knowing the team early makes absolutely zero difference. And let’s be honest it’s only a choice between two formations.

Match Thread West Bromwich Albion - Coventry City Match Thread - Friday 1st Mar

To qualify there is no one who has done more for us than Robins and as far as I’m concerned he has a job for life. But I think he’s been guilty of overthinking selection in this congested period. We’ve surely established the following by now. 1) Kitching and Thomas are our best centre halves...
