James Maddison sell on clause? Bid from WEST HAM

You’ve got the gist, but to be fair the person concerned didn’t say we got “great value”. From the fact that they were comfortable with the sale, I just assumed that they must think it was good business, and that CCFC did the best we could out of selling the player. Not sure how you can live...

James Maddison sell on clause? Bid from WEST HAM

Good question, and I don’t have an answer :) Having said that, I think he was being monitored by Spurs etc. wasn’t he? Then from memory he got quite a bad injury with his rash challenge in that game at Walsall, and he hadn’t been back that long when Norwich (who were in the Prem at the time?)...

    Up or down

Getting rid of SISU wouldn’t warrant sacrificing a promotion and taking a relegation instead. There are plenty of less extreme things I’d consider though! btw I guess people are no longer aware of it, but I remember the term “cretin” being regarded as offensive and dropped many years ago (way...

James Maddison sell on clause? Bid from WEST HAM

Yes, the Conor Thomas point is a fair one and there will always be examples where young players don't fulfill their promise and the buying cliub loses out. However, if we'd sold Conor Thomas I'd merely have been a bit miffed, whereas Maddison's talent was on a different level altogether.

James Maddison sell on clause? Bid from WEST HAM

I accept what you’re saying Otis, and I think you’re right that we probably had to sell him, and not for £20m. I was just expressing my sheer frustration at the lowly status of our club – having a young player who (at least to some of us) was very likely a future England international, who was...

    Giblet leaving the CET

Is that Alain-Patrick d’Oh, the up-and-coming feature writer from Le Figaro? Quite a coup for the Telegraph.

James Maddison sell on clause? Bid from WEST HAM

I seem to remember people here licking their lips at the idea of getting £2m for him, and me pointing out that he could be sold on for 10 times that. At this rate, I’m going to be right and it makes me mad that we’re in a position where we can’t keep players like this, at least for a few seaons...

    Giblet leaving the CET

Presumably we need to log in to SBT at 5:00 AM on Monday when you will release the exciting news to an expectant world?

Maybe I’ve missed something as usual. But I can’t see that anything has changed since the article yesterday, which said Nazon had returned to Wolves following the end of his spell with us, but was going to go back out on loan and we were still interested?

James Maddison sell on clause? Bid from WEST HAM

Nope, Maddison always had more ability but was just more lightweight. Don’t know much about what he’s done this season, but I wouldn’t be the slightest bit surprised if he ended up at a very big club. Couldn’t believe it how some people were rubbing their hands at the money we were getting...

Yeah, apologies, I thought the quotes sounded a bit familiar! God, that's deceptive recycled journalism from Andy Turner, although to be fair I normally like his coverage of things. The bit where it says "Speaking last month" looks like a standalone paragraph, but I suspect you're right in...

It says City are understood to be continuing talks with Molineux chiefs about an extension. Robins: “I know their sporting director Kevin Thelwell really well and unless there’s a reason for them to move him on I think the appetite will be for him to stay with us. But, again, if a team from a...

Maybe I'm reading it differently, but to me it sounds fairly likely he'll stay with us. I like the player because he can sometimes do the unexpected, but I hardly think he's done so well here that higher-level clubs will be queuing up for him. Can only presume that if we lose him there are...

Stand up if you've never watched Wasps

Sorry Nick, I saw this and tried to let it go but can’t. People saying CCFC can’t leave Coventry isn’t preaching, it’s arguing for the right thing in the matter that directly concerns us as City fans. What would Coventry City at the NEC or Bermuda Park be other than a franchise? We could be...

Regarding the banning of users, I can’t see the merit in it really, and where would the fun come from? Peeler’s awful grammar has had me grinning from ear to ear, given the way he was policing people’s punctuation the other day. Just let people say what they want, because everyone on here is...

I know what you mean, but the shades of grey could be illustrated by the NEC example. For me, the outskirts of Coventry is OK, the outskirts of Birmingham isn’t. So the NEC / Birmingham International is unequivocally not right, and surely nearly all Sky Blues fans would agree. When they build...

Stand up if you've never watched Wasps

Could of been?! What an irony. Regarding the topic itself, you can't seriously be trying to pass over the quote in the Telegraph, which was "He added that the he saw Wasps as a real estate business 'with a rugby bit stuck on'". It may often look like I'm some kind of Wasps enthusiast, but in...

Stand up if you've never watched Wasps

I used the NEC as an example because people on SBT have actually mentioned it as a viable place for CCFC. We’re not talking Meriden here, we’re talking the NEC, which most definitely isn’t on the outskirts of Coventry. It’s Birmingham. People endlessly trundle out the line “If you’re OK about...
