What Will You Leave Behind ?

999 - very underrated. Still remember my excitement when Separates came out. Big overlap there with my collection.

Yes I agree with that. The devil is in the detail. When looking for information I trust hmrc and gov over other sites, where one has no idea of agenda or even if the truth is even intended.

Yes I do. Government stats are independent. Did you know that people in temporary accommodation are counted in homelessness stats?

Abuse of benefits has reduced. They used to be so high that some people chose it as a lifestyle. It's no longer a comfortable existence and so cases like this are less common. Having said that, I know a 16 year old girl who wants to get pregnant so she doesn't have to go to college and can...

And sometimes, anecdotal evidence is not accurate as it is being used to political ends.

Also found that the starting salary for a qualified nurse is £22,128 - close to the median.

Anecdotal evidence over facts and figures?

OK, so this is what I found. The median wage is £23,556, so any family bringing in less than £14,133.60 per year is counted in the poverty stats. A person working full time on the minimum wage earns £12,194. They need a 16% increase in salary to get out of poverty. The number of teenage...

I'll do some number crunching tomorrow. I'll be able to find the median wage and hence determine the income level at which poverty is defined in the UK. I can then also find out the benefits for a single-parent family and we should find that this is below the limit. It states in the report...

This report shows that child poverty is decreasing: https://www.gov.uk/government/uploads/system/uploads/attachment_data/file/600091/households-below-average-income-1994-1995-2015-2016.pdf It also states that children are more likely to be in low income households. I imagine something to do...

You do know that the definition of poverty used in these statistics is having income lower than 60% of median? Hence by definition, there will always be people in poverty unless the Gini coeff = 0.

Are you aware of any incident, ever, whilst Labour were in power or not, where Conservative supporters disrupted their conference? Either with marches, invading rooms and shouting, or in any other manner? And yet, I believe this happens at Tory conferences every year. I recall last year that...

Accepted that in real terms it has reduced. However as French wages growth was 0.5% and inflation is 1%, then clearly in real terms it is falling there too: France Inflation Rate | 1958-2017 | Data | Chart | Calendar | Forecast and in Italy Italy Hourly Wage Inflation YoY | 1983-2017 | Data...

No, the extremely competitive and falling (since 2010) Gini coefficient, in combination with wealth per capita, tells you much about the average person though. I cannot access your link.

I haven't found any evidence anywhere. Find some and prove me wrong. Extremely unlikely that 1 million people have used them at all, if the total number of times used is only just greater than 1 million. 'Depend upon' implies constant use and that of course isn't the case. Had he said "There...

    Oh Jeremy Corbyn

For the second day, militants attempted to disrupt the Tory conference. At one stage a group disrupted a meeting being held by Rees-Mogg, shouting and waving banners. I don't believe that any Tories did the same to Labour's conference last week, but moving on, here is some footage of a...

One should also consider wealth per capita, as it's not great to have no inequality but low income. This shows wealth per capita for OECD countries. Again the UK comes out well - higher than Germany & France. The UK is a wonderful place to live - we should count ourselves fortunate. List of...

Inequality in the UK was mentioned. I decided to do some reading on inequality and how it is measured; now sharing as I think it's good to share knowledge. Economists measure inequality using the Gini coefficient. To explain this, I first need to explain the Lorenz curve: Imagine an x axis...

Downloaded this film from BBC iPlayer. Recommended. I'm biased because it's about maths and includes the music of Keaton Henson. But I think it holds up.
